Also regardless, I do believe that the bikers would find some other way to make their $ and still be fighting it out, most of these gangs didn't start up as drug movers.
They are into prostitution, run strip clubs, paid security for some things (protection rackets for others), extortion, gambeling (which is legal), loan sharking, weapons smuggling, human smuggling, ect.... Drugs are a major part of their income but there are other ways to make $.

It's been a bad week for the Angels here in Calgary too, 9 grow ops all connected to them busted to the tune of $17 million in profits.

So why click the story? You think its not worthwhile to take away their two most lucrative sources of revenue? The drug war is a horrible failure. It has allowed them to become very powerful. Prohibition is what is getting old. If you don't care about the violence, then go talk about hockey or some other stupid thing.

@choban - so do you come up with some brilliant new angle to comment on every story? It's basically same old same old for all of us on this forum, and even the stories we select to comment on in the first place reflect that.

Ahem, my cousins husband was thrown off a hotel in Winnipeg by bikers over a drug debt in the early 90's, so yes I care about the violence, maybe more some and less than others, and I also talk about hockey, and many other subjects here on CKA and in the real world.

But nobody suggests prohibiting private security firms, gambling, payday loans, weapons, immigration, etc. The amount of money that is being made on drugs and prostitution by criminals is huge! We spend money to lock them up, and the example I'm talking about here shows how the public is worse off because of it in a very direct way. Usually you have to get your head around the "drugs are bad" groupthink before you can get used to the idea that prohibition causes violence, not the drugs. Here it's clearly the case. I'm happy if there is no drug turf war where you live, but gangs are a big problem here. Winnipeg would be a much better place without prosperous gangs.




I've noticed certain people resent this topic. They think it's taboo or something maybe. I understand if people think it's not worth talking about, but the ones who take the time to make comments to the effect of "dont talk about this anymore" are very strange.

I think it is more accurate to say they resent the fact logic and facts keep invalidating their argument and that the more research is done the more legalization & treatment programs work exceedingly better then shoving them into jails as their moral codes demand.

Like the church & sex they cannot stand that people are getting pleasure from something they dislike and they want it stopped.

More like we reject your legalization theory as a Utopian fantasy/delusion that has no basis in reality and that will lead to an uber-nightmare scenario that makes the current crime situation look pleasant in comparison.
