California Democrats legalize child prostitution

Beginning on Jan. 1, prostitution by minors will be legal in California. SB 1322 bars law enforcement from arresting sex workers who are under the age of 18 for soliciting or engaging in prostitution, or loitering with the intent to do so.

To be fair how true that title is depends on how you read it.

A California kid or import can't be charged in California for prostitution.

Johns of kid hookers can be charged though. That's the way I read it anyway.

Sensationalist right wing scumbag distortion. Just goes to show these Republican shitbags don't have even a shred of decency

The Democrat's law doesn't "legalize child prostitition". It correctly identifies that the children caught up in this are the VICTIMS, not criminals for the justice system to prosecute.

Johns, pimps and other adults involved are still very much criminals.

False headline. No wonder the right wing is such a frothing cauldron of hate, reading that bullshit.

    +5 for getting this spot-on right! R=UP

The problem the law addresses is that when a child is KIDNAPPED and forced into prostitution the fucking cops and the prosecutors don't rescue the child they her because all they fucking care about is getting another score.

What's worse is that these fucking animals will let the bail the girls out of jail and then they usually get them out of the state or country...or kill them.

The courts told the fucking pigs to knock this shit off and they kept it up anyway so now the legislature took away their toys. Good. Sometimes the Democrats get things right and this is one of those times they nailed it.

Edit: As was said on another site last night...

If a girl gets kidnapped and raped by one man she's a victim.

If she gets kidnapped and raped by 100 men she's a whore. Get it?

Cops and prosecutors only do what they're told by the government and politicians, and everywhere across the planet for centuries it's been bust & shame & imprison/execute the hookers and let the johns go. Just one of mankind's more glaring hypocrisies in destroying the female with all the righteous and moralizing legal thunder that can be summoned while at the same time protecting/enabling/lionizing the male with the usual "boys will be boys" garbage.

How very Muslim sounding. Lock those kid prostitutes up with the hardened cons to get raped. That'll teach the evil little bastids.

The article identifies the problem with the legislation:

The unintended but predictable consequence of how the real villains pimps and other traffickers in human misery will respond to this new law isn't difficult to foresee. Pimping and pandering will still be against the law whether it involves running adult women or young girls. But legalizing child prostitution will only incentivize the increased exploitation of underage girls. Immunity from arrest means law enforcement can't interfere with minors engaging in prostitution which translates into bigger and better cash flow for the pimps. Simply put, more time on the street and less time in jail means more money for pimps, and more victims for them to exploit.

As Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley, a national leader on human trafficking issues, told the media, "It just opens up the door for traffickers to use these kids to commit crimes and exploit them even worse." Another prosecutor insightfully observed that if traffickers wrote legislation to protect themselves, it would read like SB 1322.
