Connor McDavid should've taken a penalty shot or at least have drawn a penalty after Alex Pietrangelo hooked and slashed him, but neither happened. This play should represent a beacon for change.

If Johnny Hockey doesn't get his hand broken, Flames could very well be in first place right now in the Pacific. It's a big deal.

An opinion from someone that's been covering sports for about 150 years.

In a few short days, on Jan. 1, the National Hockey League will begin to celebrate its Centennial.

Its a perfect time to make some resolutions.

Not New Years resolutions. New Era resolutions.

The timing is perfect for the NHL to declare a Centennial project to give the game back to the fans.

What weve witnessed in the last few days alone screams for it to happen.

The freeze-frame for it all came in an Edmonton Oilers game against the Coyotes in Arizona Wednesday evening.

The TV cameras caught it perfectly. The referee stood six feet away watching Connor McDavid get mauled and hauled down. I mean, the ref was positioned like an umpire for a play at the plate. It was, at minimum, interference but qualified as several other infractions. No call. And he was captured staring right at it and standing right over it.

    Its been happening all season.

Just a homer view point I guess, even though the puck was already in the Oilers end when that picture was taken.
