A Conservative Party campaign ad that asserts Justin Trudeau is "just not ready" has been running on television and the web for months now, and according to a Forum Research poll, the idea may be sticking.

Forum attributes this result to Conservative advertising, arguing that despite his experience in Parliament as a substitute school teacher, the ads have people doubting.

    FTFY CBC.

It only works because it's true.

Sorry, but this line of attack ads are just lame.

Mulcair is a 'career politician'? The same can be said about Harper, who's been in and out of politics almost as long - and when was out, he was lobbying through the NCC.

And Trudeau not being ready? that's a fair criticism, but Harper had barely more legislative experience when he became PM.

Besides, before you guys boast too much, you might want to actually read a little further in the article:

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper fared the worst, as the vast majority of those surveyed, 69 per cent, believed he had been prime minister for too long.

So one's not quite ripe, the other is starting to stink?

They are lame but what's more lame is the fact that they work. That type of crap advertising actually effects elections.

Agreed. Sad isn't it that people are more influenced by negative ads than positive ones? Why do the political parties waste all that time and money on TV ads anyway?

I don't need to hear what an idiot the other guy is or what "they" will do to screw me if elected.

They could spend the time telling me about the lovely things that they will do that I should support, even if it's bs.

But even better, they should all shut the hell up with the ads altogether and let us make up our own minds.

My initial thought too, but then on what basis would you make up your mind if the parties don't tell you what they plan to do? Personally I guess I go by what the media tells me the parties position is, I don't watch political ads themselves. And I don't really believe the sweet nothings the parties try to tell me anyway. I'm usually voting against the govt if I think they've had a long enough kick at the can, or for them if I think they're doing a good job and deserve another term. In the latter case tho, I'm just as likely to vote for a fringe party, just for shits and giggles. Too bad we don't have enough Rhino candidates out West. I really still want to see them introduce that gradual changeover to driving on the left, where only trucks and buses make the switch the first year.

The money spent isn't a waste. It wins elections!

People don't want the truth, facts or debate. They want tabloid politics. Scandal, outrage, anger and lots of gossip.

It's embarrassing that people are too stupid to see that all these parties are buying our votes with OUR money.

I just don't need to hear the negative jabs. It's childish regardless of which party is using them.

I must admit that in the last federal election I voted for the candidate in my riding I felt best represented the riding. The local papers (not the Province or Van Sun) had quite good coverage and interviews with the candidates and what they specifically said about local concerns. The person I voted for lost by a long shot, and I knew they would, but regardless, I used my ballot.

Yes, I've done that as well, when I don't see much diff in who gets into govt.

You're part of what's wrong with our Country with respect to elections.

Voting for anyone for "shits and giggles" is childish and frankly, insulting. Voting out any party, just because you think they've been in office too long is another error...because that party may be the best choice for the Country.

Lastly, you can't be bothered to look into the parties and make an educated vote. Typical of most Canadians. If you get all of your information via the media, you're just adding to the problem.

And that's why Democracy is broken.

    It's not broken.

    We take it for granted.
