Comcast Corp. agreed to acquire Time Warner Cable Inc. for $45.2 billion in stock, a surprise deal that combines the two largest U.S. cable companies and creates a bulwark against competition from phone and satellite providers.

Why not buy the last company as well and control all of the US if you're spending that kind of money?
Another exemplar of one of the two legal concepts that don't exist in the US anymore: Anti-trust laws. (the other is conflict of interest)

I'll be surprised if this merger happens. Anti-trust laws blocked AT&T & T-Mobile from merging.
