When Pauline Tantost got kicked off a Montreal city bus last week for not paying her fare with exact change, she was shocked. And then a transit inspector handed her a ticket with a $219 fine for not paying her fare.

That sort of behaviour on transit in Toronto could get you as shot full of holes as a slice of Swiss cheese.

TRAN SIT That's where poor folk go, here, to receive abuse from both drivers and fellow passengers. If you suffer from high self esteem, just ride the bus for a while.

    Wow, that is ridiculous.

Why doesn't the 'fare machine' take bills? Why doesn't a driver have petty cash?

Damn, stupid idiocy that could easily be taken care of infuriates me.

I haven't ridden buses in awhile but don't the drivers carry those belly band change machines anymore and if they don't maybe they should because this is just plain stupid.

I also see a lawsuit in Montreal Transit's future. You can't kidnap a person because they didn't have the right change and then drive till one of your buddies shows up to give them a $219.00 ticket.

I believe in the rest of Canada that's called kidnapping and extortion but given the recent events in Montreal I guess it's just called municipal politics.

Although, it's nice to see that the mob has expanded it's portfolio to include transportation because everyone knows that diversification is the key to financial success. XD

It's not kidnapping, she could have turned around and got off, rather than standing around like she didn't know you have to pay with coins.

You always blame the victim, don't you.

You don't see how this driver (as well as the 'inspectors') are just major assholes?

Only when they are at fault.

You don't see how this driver (as well as the 'inspectors') are just major assholes?

Nope. If you want to use the bus then you need to play by the rules of the bus. Don't like it, then get a car.

Should the bus be able to take bills? Maybe. But a refit would be millions and millions of dollars that could be saved to keep costs down or to improve service.

What actions did she take to secure a ticket? Did she ask anyone to break her bill into coins?

Again first world problems. If the biggest problem in your day is that you can't convert your bill into coins to pay for the bus your life isn't that bad.

The fact that the buses do not take bills is ridiculous. All buses here take both change and bills.

Nope. If you want to use the bus then you need to play by the rules of the bus. Don't like it, then get a car. Bullshit. She offered the driver $5 while the trip was $3. He didn't want to take it because he is an asshole, and called his buddies, who fined her, but let someone else go who had an expired ticket. What's your excuse for that?

    Bullshit aswell.

HE drove off without giving her a chance, and when someone wanted to pay $3 CASH for her, he told her 'Nevermind, it's free'.
Did you READ the story? Oh wait, let me consider the source. No, you didn't.

Again first world problems. If the biggest problem in your day is that you can't convert your bill into coins to pay for the bus your life isn't that bad.

She came out of the ER with her child, you dickhead.
Do you know HOW bad her life is?

Note to self: Don't let this fucktard get to you, Brenda. Breathe.

Here the Bus driver would just override the ticket dispenser and let her on. I have overpaid before, by a little, Bus Driver told me I overpaid but he couldn't make change, I just shrugged and basically said "Sucks to be me", he chuckled, i got a ride.

I would think to keep them from being robbed.

As for the rest of the story I'm of the mind set of WTF let her overpay and move on. Or like you pointed out someone offered to pay the $3 and the driver said no. He (the driver) was an total ass.

I wonder if she walks in and pays with $220 will they throw a fit about having to make change.
