Phew! Mayan heartland rejoices as world survives apocalypse

No one was quite sure at what time the 5,125-year cycle in Mayan calendar would officially end on Dec. 21. Some think it already ended at midnight Thursday. Others looked to Friday's dawn in the Mayan heartland. Some had later times in mind.

WTF is wrong with people? What is this Mayan apocalypse people keep speaking of? Nowhere, NOWHERE in Mayan society did they ever predict an end to the world when their calendar ends. And just like our calendar ends every year, it's not the end, it's the end of the 13th Baktun and the start of the 14th.

There's even plenty of evidence to suggest the Mayan calendar wasn't Mayan at all. Even the Maya themselves said they did not create the calendar and that it was handed down to them.
