For some Eskimos fans, getting rid of general manager Eric Tillman has been a long time coming. Fan Stuart Lee said the sacking of Tillman Saturday was a joyous occasion. My first thought was Christmas had come early, said Philipe Landry

Whether firing Tillman or not is a good idea is a whole separate issue as to whether the timing was wise. Why upset the apple cart right before the playoffs begin? Unless he got caught sleeping with the owner's spouse one would think you could fire the guy after November 25.

Since he lived in Regina and 'phoned it in' most of the time, will it really make a difference? And if the Eskimos win, the optics look bad to fire him then. Playoff games are up to the coaches' performance, and the GM is responsible for next seasons's play. Not this season.

He went from a disgraced coach in Saskatchewan; was given a plum position in the CFL because they believe in forgivenenss; decided to leave his family in the city that hates him and commute back and forth 18 hours to work, possible hoping to move his family back to his home in the southern US and commute from there. Firing him now just lets everyone know that he used up his goodwill, and there will be no 'next season' for him in the CFL.
