Hey, Canada: Americans like us. They really, really like us. In fact, they like us better than anyone, anywhere on the planet.

We're very cuddly, kind of a Jerry Seinfeld of nations. Who couldn't like us?

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay, us!

    96% of Americans love us...

...but only about 7% of them can actually find us on a map. 8O

Yes there is love, but don't let it get to your head. You're still behind Australia. They have Utes.

As I often say, don't feel too bad because most Americans can't find America on a map of America.

Strange, one of the things we had to learn in school when I was young was all the the US states, being able to place them on a map and their capital city.

...Please, no jokes about there being only 13 states at that time. 8)

Down here we've seen an almost endless assault on hard education by the left and the result is that sciences, mathematics, and things like music and geography have been shunted aside in favor of curricula where it's harder to assess if a student is achieving or not.

Consequently, what I am saying is true that most Americans have no comprehension of the concepts of geography.

It's not much better up here. I had to deal with a help center a few years ago based in Ottawa for a problem I was having. When asked what city I was calling from I stated Winnipeg. her next question was what province was I in. After a moments silence, I asked if she was kidding. I informed her that it was a provincial capital city just west of Ontario. Her reply was "Oh that's right Saskatchewan." My reply was to get her manager.

It has been five or six years but there was a survey done in Sacramento County and one of the questions asked of 1st year college students was:

The cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Sacramento are located in what state?

    1. Oregon
    2. California
    3. New Mexico
    4. These cities are not all in the same state.

Some 40% of these students answered #4.

They freaking LIVE in California and are unable to identify four of our major cities!

When I lived in California, I had two separate arguments with college students who insisted that Rome is the capital of Romania and that the US only shares one border with another country.
    I'm not kidding.

    Meh,

I can introduce you to more than a few Albertans that are inspirational geographers as well.

In modern times, people are becoming technology dependant. Why learn and memorise when you can look it up in half a second?
