This is why the UN needs to be shut down and a less corrupt version created.

Do they have a giant bowl of rogue nations they pick from when they have anything relating to human rights and such? Sheesh.

When you have North Korea chairing this, Iran on a committee for women's right and other third world barbarians dictating how we run things...well I guess we view the UN like the old family dog. When it was born it had all sorts of potential and for years it served a useful purpose. We had some good times and made some good memories. But lately, we have noticed it's changed...you can't trust it like you once could, it's lazy and ineffective and it's picked up some REALLY nasty parasites and diseases that just refuse treatment. You realize that it has become a possible danger, and for the good of all concerned, you need to have it put down.

Come on UN, really? I mean putting Iran on a committee for woman's rights wasn't messed up enough. Now this? Maybe it's time we start to look at taking out everybody that works at the UN and putting in entirely new people. A fresh start as obviously the people running the UN are defected.

I look forward to the next four years of Canada boycotting and publically blasting any of these ridiculous UN events that are chaired and dominated by terrorists and tyrants. Thank you, Mr. Harper!

    PDT_Armataz_01_37 R=UP Exactly correct.

Why in the world would you have North Korea on a disarmament committee let alone its chairman? This is as stupid as Iran being on a committee for women's rights.

If Nazi Germany was still around the UN might make Hitler chairman of the Committee against Genocide.

I always try and defend the UN, but this time I won't even try. I mean, did not one person think that North Korea chairing this was a ridiculous decision? I understand the principle of engagement with shithole countries run by shitheads, but there's engagement for diplomacy's sake and then there's comical stupidity.

Canada is boycotting the UN for making North Korea the Chairman of the Disarmament Committee.

The US is suspending military aid to Pakistan as they are less than reliable allies on the war on terror.

It might be too early to tell but is the civilized world actually beginning to grow a pair of balls against evil in this world?

Yeah, North Korea chairing a disarmament committe would be like Paris Hilton chairing a virginity and chastity symposium.

Or Charlie Sheen chairing The Committe For a Drug Free World.

No, the UN deserves defending, even when it makes decisions such as this.

What all the naysayers here forget is that the General Assembly works based on DEMOCRACY. It's an awful idea I know, but the majority gets their way, not the minority. The naysayers here also forget that the when the UN 'worked' (in their opinion) the West had a majority in it and the UN followed its will, and no doubt the USSR and Warsaw Pact felt as ill-represented as the West does now.

Thankfully, most Western nations do NOT ascribe to such an antiquated, silly form of government...oh wait a minute!

I think this is a terribly bad decision, but that's what happens in democracies. Look at how many bad decisions the US government has made in the past 20 years.

The POV of which were truly bad decisions really comes down to your political opinion, nothing more.

As many Conservative supporters here said after the recent election - suck it up, you lost. :P

The UN: Only there can you find Libya on the Human Rights Council, Iran the Chair of WOmen's Rights, and North Korea the conference chair on disarmament.

    What a hilarious clusterfuck.

Hate to think what the state of mind in the General Assembly is then if the rest of the Third World prats actually thought that choosing North Korea for anything at all, much less the high profile chair of a committee, was the best democratic choice they could make. Seriously, were Serbia, Rwanda, or Burma just too bored and tired to put their names in for the selection?

Makes me glad that the goofiness that comes out of the UN is essentially optional for any state to follow. If strict adherence to abyssmal shit like this was mandatory then the world would be even more of an abbatoir than it already is right now.
