So you send a High Commisioner to the UK and all we get is an Ambassador?

You got it wrong. We sent BC's answer to the question "Are politicians liars" to the UK and all you got was a dedicated lifetime foreign service officer?

Although, I wonder why the Conservatives decided to send Gordo to the UK when it would have been a much more logical choice to make him High Commissionaire to the Comonwealth of Hawaii?

Speaking of Commissionaire, comming from BC, maybe Harper thought Gordo was the perfect choice.

They had to give him something for instituting the HST after he'd convinced all his constituents he wasn't even thinking about it.

I wonder what Christie Cluck is gonna get if she manages to keep it?

And setting the stage for the rest of the country.

Not bad at all, out of the limelight, and a good life with lots of
    parties to go to.

    So much for Karma.

It's a Commonwealth term Dan. You lot kicked the Brits out after that little rebellion thing. You seemed to have done pretty well out of it without having a High Commissioner.

High Commissioners are for fellow Commonwealth nations; Ambassadors are for non-Commonwealth nations.

I had checked to be sure I was right. Here's a list of the latest few from Wiki. Only Michael Kergin is a foreign service officer:

    Allan Gotlieb - 19811989
    Derek Burney - 19891993
    John de Chastelain - 19931994
    Raymond Chrtien - 19942000
    Michael Kergin - 20002005
    Frank McKenna - 2005-2006
    Michael Wilson - 2006-2009
    Gary Doer - 2009-present

Ambassadorships seem to be political appointments. As they are with the guys they send us.

Kind of sad when you think about it. Here's some smuck who, because he's in tight with someone in the Government gets a plumb job where as someone who dedicated their whole life to this kind of work gets boned. 8O

The ambassador who likely knows less about the country he's ambassador to than I do about brain surgery gets all the perks while the foreign service officer gets all the work.

    Life just ain't fair.

One thought: As the Commissioner is technically the High Commissioner to St. James' Court, aka the Queen, isn't the post, at least in theory, somewhat redundant with the GG?
