Ambassadorships seem to be political appointments. As they are with the guys they send us.

Kind of sad when you think about it. Here's some smuck who, because he's in tight with someone in the Government gets a plumb job where as someone who dedicated their whole life to this kind of work gets boned.

The ambassador who likely knows less about the country he's ambassador to than I do about brain surgery gets all the perks while the foreign service officer gets all the work.

One thought: As the Commissioner is technically the High Commissioner to St. James' Court, aka the Queen, isn't the post, at least in theory, somewhat redundant with the GG?
