I bet there was an even bigger spike when the conservitives took majority.

Very mature. Guess you are really saying that all those dope smoking NDP supporters are smoking more now then ever and the liberal supporters are drowning their sorrows. Only a sore loser would relate everything they read back to the election results. Might be time to get over it dont you think?

Wouldn't it be simple to ask people when you survey them "WHY" they're drinking more?
Also doesn't mean much unless you compare the numbers to other provinces.

Why? Because the majority Conservative government has created sufficient consumer confidence that people aren't afraid to spend a little of their hard-earned enjoying a beverage?

Nice twist. Worthy of a die hard Reformacon. Or Bart.

Mann said there might be a variety of factors underlying these trends, including the economic turmoil of recent years, increased stress from changing family structures and workplace demands, as well as changing social norms as different generations age.

The survey also showed that 14.7 per cent of respondents indicated they felt "elevated psychological distress" within the few weeks prior to being interviewed. That compared to 12.7 per cent in 2000, the earliest for which this data was available.

Hey! I was going to say that people drink more during hard times. During good times people tend to drink less but .

Myself, right now I'm drinking probably about the same but I'm favoring local Clarksburg appellation) wines and Korbel brandy over Napa cabernets and French Sauternes and French armagnac.

One thing I've drawn the line on is single malt Scotch. I'm not lowering my standards on that.

No, no, I was just referring to your ability to put a different spin on a story.

Ah, in that case I appreciate the compliment!

Reminds me of the old classic from the French Army: "We're not retreating, we're simply attacking in a different direction!"

Not a twist at all. Sometimes it takes an equally idiotic rebuttal to exemplify the absurdity of the initial comment.

It's easy to make that mistake. After all, Lemmy's typically a very serious kind of guy.

oh man, you can do so much with that one, the only way the doors are more open
is if you'd taken them off.

    But I'm a nice guy. ;)

Anyway, is it the numbers are really up, or that more people are willing to fess up to it ?

Btw, the drinking and then driving soon after is not good.

    Education needs to be re-addressed.
And, sorry to say it, more cops.
