Such a shame to see Canadian shipbuilding come to this.

Why must it be the Federal governments job to keep shipbuilding companies in business? Especially considering how often we build new ships for our fleets. There is going to come a time where maybe private industry has a responsibility to build local as well, unfortunately this point was about 5 or 6 years ago.

Having said that, if the government decides to do some building at this particular yard and they are unable to to complete the project then the owners forfiet their rights and the property becomes the property of the government.

    just my 2 cents.

"Companies that do business with the Government of Canada have to be solvent. That is a requirement to bid on this contract."

But, but, but "we are Quebec. We never had to play by the same rules as everyone else does, Why now???" WHAAAA!!!

    Bingo.

The quality of work in Quebec yards is normally well below standard and there have even been instances of Naval Personnel having to steal their own ship back from a Quebec shipyard. The Federal Government has actually been held hostage to the Quebec yards and had to pay large extra sums of money just to have all ready paid for work completed.

There are about a million other stories I could tell about refits or conversions in the Quebec yards but suffice to say they're the closest thing in the shipbuilding industry to an actual Mafia.

It's about time the Government got tough with these shipyards and if they don't like a level playing field they can shut down.
