Westmont College bars 'homosexual practice.' But a letter to the campus newspaper from 31 gays and lesbians describing their 'doubt, loneliness and fear' while they were students has roiled the school.

I know, it shouldn't be like this, but... if you're gay, wouldn't be better to avoid Christian colleges? :?

The small, nondenominational school requires incoming students to sign a campus code that forbids "occult practices, sexual relations outside of marriage, homosexual practice, drunkenness, theft, profanity and dishonesty."
You can't say the students weren't warned

The question is does the college receive private funds? Is so they have to take everybody. If not, they cant do what they want.

But they do take in gay students, as long as they don't practice. 8O

Kinda like the "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

That's the typical Christian thing to do. They're saying hate the sin, love the sinner. Ie all a welcome, but don't practice your abominations around us, 'cause you'll surely go to hell. It's actually the same as for straight, unmarried, students. They're not allowed to play hide the salami either.

Still, their business unless they take govt money.

As the story states, two heterosexuals left because they couldn't abide by the rules governing premarital sex. There plenty of other non religious schools, so why pick this one that states clearly what kinds of behaviour they find unacceptable. It's like going to a rabbinical school and wondering why they asked you to leave after you were caught eating ham and cheese sandwiches.

They are asked to abstain, and if they can't follow the rules they knew existed prior to enrolling, are asked to leave...... they aren't caught, caned and tossed out naked into the street. To infer otherwise is just...well, insane.

A drunk, stealing, lying whore is just as welcome as any gay, as long as she doesn't have sex, steals, lies or gets drunk.
I don't see the discrimination here.

    Much ado about nothing...

I know, it's terrible. All those gay people being murdered, burned alive, stoned, and buggered with foreign objects before being killed.....whoops, wrong religion and wrong part of the world.
As for the so-called pogroms in the US,
The small, nondenominational school requires incoming students to sign a campus code that forbids "occult practices, sexual relations outside of marriage, homosexual practice, drunkenness, theft, profanity and dishonesty."

Wow, looks like the pogroms against drunks and thieves in America continues unabated as well.

Say whatever you want but there is a determined effort by christian purists to target homosexuality on the antiquated belief it is immoral.

That they compare it to drunkenness and thievery just emphasizes that point.

I don't think they are comparing anything. They don't want any sex (unless in matrimony) on campus, they don't want drunks, or thieves either, and no black magic.

It is a strict morality, but they don't exclude anyone. That the 31 gays have a problem with this, but the drunken whores don't, says more about the way gays see themselves in society than anything else. Just my $0.02.

Yet they do target them specifically. Its not as if there aren't boatloads of other examples homosexuals are targeted by religious bigots.

Well, you didn't convince anybody on this thread of your argument. Go to one of the boat loads of other examples and give us one that does prove your point.

They would have bitched (for not being acknowledged) if they hadn't been mentioned also...
