The 100 samples were sent to a lab for analysis. Two-thirds of the chicken samples had bacteria. That in itself is not unusual ? E. coli, salmonella and campylobacter are often present in raw chicken.
What was surprising was that all of the bacteria uncovered during the Marketplace sampling were resistant to at least one antibiotic. Some of the bacteria found were resistant to six, seven or even eight different types of antibiotics.
I'm not sure if this makes me want to watch the show. I think I was happier before I read that.
Every single thing we eat, drink and touch has germs and bacteria on it and in it. Guess what, that's why our bodies developed an immune system. Those bacteria have been on our food, well, forever. Like Brenda said, cook it properly and now worries.
The scary thing is alot of these bacteria are transfered prior to cooking. It is anazing how much cross contamination there can be just from handling raw chicken. Sure once it is cooked to the proper temperature all the bacteria on the chicken is killed off but what about the ones on all of the cooking and prep surfaces..
"Curtman" said It's not the bacteria in the food that concerns me, it's the resistance that it has and our wonderful "preventative medicine" that is causing it.
Finally says something that I agree with 100%! All this use of anti-bacterial soaps/lotions by paranoid morons has merely made stronger strains of bacteria.

I totally agree. People have become obsessed with the whole idea of germ-free everything. Why do we have so many sick kids nowadays..It's because when they were young they were never exposed to any kind of evil 'germ' so they never develop any kind of immunity. So once exposed..Ooo poor little Johnny or Mary gets sick and usually sicker than a normal person. It seems like in the past twenty years we have become a nation of hand sanitizers and microbiobial this that and everything else. Pretty soon we will have so many super bugs that every anti-biotic we have will be useless.
Now after saying that. I still cannot understand why these frickin' chickens are getting or even need anti-biotics. I mean they are chickens for chrissake. What is the average lifespan of a fryer chicken? On hell of a lot shorter than mine.
