Nothing new here, this is common practice.

Hell the Northern Stores do that all the time to their meat, or at least they used to. Sometimes it was grey and had 3 or 4 best before stickers on it. One of the reasons I had a freezer full of moose when we lived up north.

Yep. My ex-wife worked at a grocery store that did the same thing with chicken.
They'd unpack the chicken on it's best before date, wash it off in ice water, then repack it with a new best before date.

So that's why once when I bought a fresh turkey, it stunk the high-heavens when I opened the package. 8O

I thought SuperStore throws the meat into their freezer section with a new packaging date and a reduced price

My roommate worked in a meat room before, he's mentioned this happening. But he also mentioned other stuff about this sketchy store too. I refuse to get meat there now.

It's times like this I miss the Box Meat Revolution in Kitchener. Their meat was so fresh you had to wipe its ass before cooking it.

that market never completely went away. its available still if you figure you can afford the cost of a 1/4 beef or more.

Nahhh it wasn't like that. For eg: they sold hamburger in 10 lb boxes but broke them down into 1 lb packs. Everything there was already pre-cut and ready for cooking. You didn't have to buy an entire side of beef.

Since I didn't read the story let me guess.

    Stupid Store?

    You would be correct.

Not suprising that I could figure it out. How many times before this have they been caught doing the same freakin thing out here?

I don't buy meat or fish from them and it's for this exact reason. Good prices lousy business ethics.

Nope. All yesterday's ground meat (beef, pork, chicken, goat . . .) goes into a hopper, gets mixed with a little frozen chipped Aussie leftovers, and comes out as Regular ground 'beef'. Commonly called in the trade - 'Barnyard Surprise'.

Ilike my beef to be dead at least 3 weeks before trying to eat it, or else it's tough as hell no matter how long you cook it. When we were on Kinmen, we bought beef from the local market. It was fresh.....the day before fresh, and just like leather.
