A retired NHLer says the league discriminates against players who aren't English-speaking Canadians and he alleges in a new book that teams systematically shut the door on others.

Sirois is an idiot. First off, despite the constant BS flowing from SOME ppl in Quebec, Quebec is NOT, repeat NOT a nation. It is PART of a nation however.
As for the NHL preferring anglophone Canadians I'm not too sure about that considering the large number of Europeans playing in the NHL. However, considering ALL but one team are in English speaking cities, this just sounds like a bunch more whining from the vocal minority in Quebec demanding that everyone aquiesce to their demands. Demands that seem to include teams in foreign countries now.
Maybe Sirois can explain why, say, the Dallas Stars should pick a francophone over an anglophone of equal talent.

This guy is a complete arse wipe. Professional hockey teams are businesses. They draft the best players to help them make money. The Montreal Canadiens will draft a kid because of his hockey talents and his ability to put people in the seats. As for Quebec putting a seperate team in the World junior Championship, as the IIHF says, one team per nation. Why should Quebec get special treatment??

Because they are a 'distinct' nation within a nation within a nation......etc. Thanks Harper.
