And then they can't play outside anymore, but have to sit and wait in silence.

Okay, the rule is completely BS, but....

"When the students eat, they don't have the right to talk," said Louise Gagnon, the mother of a seven-year-old student. She said her son's behaviour has deteriorated since the new rule came into effect.

"When he returned to school, he became hyperactive," Gagnon said. "He would jump on the couch like a little monster, you might say.

I call BULLSHIT on that lady....some lazy "parent' (and I use that term loosely) is looking for a "reason' to sue and get a free ride out of this. 15 minutes of quiet time is going to ruin her kid? FO lady!!!

Back in grade school kids used to be individually given silent lunch all the time as a punishment, or the entire lunchroom in we were collectively getting too rowdy. It seems like 15 minutes is very little for the school to ask. And these kids get a WHOLE HOUR for lunch? What the hell is up with that? We had 25 minutes to eat before they threw us out for the next lunch period.

They don't ban talking during meals in prisons, so I doubt it. I guess Quebec should model their schools after prisons in order to improve freedoms.

I have to agree that this is laughable. Because the kid has to be quiet for 15 minutes during the day all of a sudden he's developed ADHD? What garbage.

My grandsons tell me they can't talk during lunch as well and they are attending school in Ontario.

Good training for the kids for when they grow up into a nanny state.

Of course, when I was a kid in England you'd get a cuff across the back of the head for using your fork incorrectly. The British use a fork with the tines pointing down. No problem most of the time, except when it comes to peas, when clearly the most efficient method is to scoop the little buggers up with your fork. The British school system frowns on this kind of innovative thinking though.
Probably one of the reasons I never made it past Grade 11.

Why are they eating lunch in a gym anyway? In grade school we always ate in our respective homerooms or went home for lunch. In high school we had a cafeteria.

Quite right. Conversation isn't 'banned' in the dining hall in prison. But one only has ELEVEN MINUTES from the time they enter the dining hall, until they must leave-as the next guy who always sits in the chair you are occupying-has now entered the hall to eat, and he will dump you out on your ass. No time for conversating!
