The head of the Canadian Islamic Congress says he's hurt and insulted that Defence Minister Peter MacKay has cancelled his speech at the National Defence Headquarters over accusations that the Islamic organization holds extremist views.

I think this is a bad call. An Imam in the CIC saying something retarded four years ago and then turning the CIC and a new Imam away after inviting them is just plain wrong headed.

Isn't this the group that condemed Radical Islamal as non-Islamic?

If that is the case this was a not a bright move.

    Appears to be.

One would think these are the vocal moderates that we often demand to play a larger part in the Islamic community. They are also the ones who can best work to bridge the two worlds.

    Bad call.

The Canadian Islamic Congress isnt a benign organization.

They supported the infamous Durban 2001 conference which portrayed Jews as hook-nosed sub-humans, they are active in condemning Israel but support the Hamas led Palestinian government.

They also want Hamas and Hezbollah taken off our anti-terror list.

They are against Canadian troops being in Afghanistan. They want Sharia law introduced in Canada.

The CIC founder, Elmasry is mired in controversy with his open hostility to Jews.

I cant believe the Defence Minister was even going to speak with these guys.

This is not the voice of moderate Islam.

Tarek Fatahs' Muslim Canadian Congress is the voice of moderate Islam.

Given this I was wrong. If this guy is a Moslem hard liner prenting to be a moderate than this was the right thing to do.
We had enough of hardliners forcing themselves on stage tell us what to do.

I don't know much about the CIC but looks like the nutter Al Masry along with his loonyness is gone, so in that light it would a bad call, but if the CIC still has that looneyness about him then yes it would be fair.

Currently from what I know about the CIC ( which is not much ) I can't give much of an opinion on this.

I do wonder why the guy was invited in the first place if he had baggage. Frankly, whether the guy is a thudfuck or not, the fact that he was invited, then punted suggests some personnel did some shitastic staffwork.

Yea, it's a bit Python-ish with all these groups having similar names. Peoples Front of Judea and all that!

Tarek's Canadian Islamic Congress are moderate but not afraid to call things as they see them.

He's a good egg. His daughter is a CBC reporter and I quite like her stuff too.

I think this probably went south when CSIS and the RCMP checked who was attending and advised the Defence Minister accordingly.

Politicians and their aides are pretty dumb, they are more interested in votes than security until they are reminded by their security guys.

Maybe Paul Martin and Maria Minna should have listened to their RCMP and CSIS briefs before he went to a Tamil Tiger Fundraiser in 2005.
