RCMP Commissioner William Elliott is coming under fire for wearing a police uniform and carrying a gun even though he is a civilian, not a trained police officer.
I don't really see the big deal. But I share Pen's comments, that is merely a defencive close quarter firearm. If something serious went down, it wouldn't do much good.

No, it's way worse Pen. It's like the head of the Canex wearing a maroon beret.
The gun I can understand. I defiantly wouldn't want to be in Afghanistan with out one. A little more training would have been preferable but I hardly think its a big scandal to be armed in a war zone.
Wearing the RCMP uniform is completely inappropriate. Wearing a police or military uniform is something that has to be earned. Elliott has done nothing to earn the uniform and its an insult to everyone who had to earn the right to wear the uniform. And the excuse about it making him easy to identify by coalition forces is bullshit. A white dude in a suit surrounded by security is just as distinctive as an RCMP uniform in Afghanistan.

I think you summed that up rather well.
What was he thinking? This will be seen as a very negative thing within the RCMP and Canadian cops as a whole.
Civvy, in uniform with a pistol. RCMP recruits can't carry a pistol until they have completed 12 months training.
Plus during that training they learn how to iron a shirt.
Not good.
6 months at Depo, I don't think there would be many RCMP officers if the training was 12 months.
like I heard on a radio show, some of the top brass don't carry side arms because they are constantly surrounded by a security force, not sure but i think this guy would have the same luxury. and i agree with Penatrator, if a 5.56 doesn't drop these terrorists...a 9mm isn't going to do shit!
typical that we are not upset about him wearing a traditional uniform, instead we are upset with a law abiding person packing a handgun he isnt a criminal, so back the hell off, imo.

My mistake at the length of time at Depot. It was 12 months a few years ago.
This just shows the troops in the RCMP what a first-class tool is leading them. He hasn't earned the right to wear that uniform or carry a pistol.
He has managed to totally undermine any credibility he had within the RCMP in one photo-op.

This will not go well for him.
