Not since the anti-Catholic movement of the late 19th century has the U.S. known a religious panic such as the one that is now linking Muslims to terrorism, forbidding the building of mosques in many U. S. cities and towns, and poisoning the climate of co

    My god...

Is the obvious religious panic really that obvious?

And are the comments really as worrying as they appear?

Wow the stupidity on both sides is totally amazing.

Personally I'm not for building a mosque anywhere in the western world until Mecca is opened to non Muslims without fear of deportation.

If the Islamic world is serious about inter-relational faith then fine but I don't think it unreasonable to suggest that we start by ending the banishment of the non Islamic people to ever set foot in Mecca.

But hey this is America and Canada and were better then that. They have every right to build. let's just hope they learn a thing or two about tolerance and rethink some of their policies.

I wrote the same thing in one of threads sometime back. Thats these are the ways great tradgedies in human history have started. If not stopped it will reach critical mass and just need something minute to snap. Someone looks at someone the wrong way, or points at someone he shouldn't have. Fists fly or worse shots fired. Mob mentality breaks out, people spill out into the street.................you can guess the rest.

Well you'll forgive me if it comes as no surprise if I Imply that we would all be better off if we woke up and rid ourselves of the god delusion.

You sir and better then your religion I was far better then Yahweh and most humans genuinely love and care for each other to some degree when no religion is involved. We don't need gods for morality.

That's what I see as the core of this problem. Rather then reach out to those who don't have the kind of freedom in the middle east that we have here in the Western world we would rather try and tear them down for simply having the same belief as some people who did something terrible.

Stalin was an atheist (Hitler was not despite what some insist) but even if he did the things he did because of his lack of religion it would not show that all atheists would act that way.

In other words the big point many of these groups miss is that correlation does not equal causation.

CJ yes thank you for enlightening us again that the solution to every probelem in the world is atheism.

That's one of the dumber things I've seen today. Why the hell should they build churches, temples or synagogues in Mecca? Everybody there is a Moslem if you haven't fucking noticed, and it has absolutely zero significance to non Moslems.

Those arab cities or regions that had a Christian past or have a significant number of Christians or other faiths, have other religious centres in them(Damascus, Amman, Tripoli, Algiers, Istanbul, Cairo, Alexandria, Bethlehem, Baghdad, Beirut, Tehran to name but a few).

There are Moslem populations where they do build mosques in other nations. Also, we(Westerners) unlike Saudi Arabia have freedom of religion, and the right not to practise religion, enshrined in our constitutions.

That was the US military(aka The Great satan's crusaders). The West was defending the oil rich terrorist backers from someone who actually killed Islamic radicals.

8O ...It isn't? You mean all those claims about it curing athletes foot, world deforestation, the loss of all left socks, Pamela Anderson talking in public and answering the long standing question, "Can you really get 20,000 kms per oil change with synthetic oil"? Damn Atheists, they're as bad as those damn Christians and Muslims...

Yep, if the two sides get their way, there will be a holy war in the US of A before too long. Extremist on either side are equally as foul as the other. Maybe those involved should watch the tape of these demonstrations in the US, then watch one from a Muslim country and show the why theirs is righteous and the other is terrorism.

Yet the opposite is true for Muslims? Nice...

For a group who state the want to have peace and sharing, they sure do not show it. By continuing to insist upon building the center near ground zero they have become confrontational and intolerant of the majority of citizens of NYC. Interesting that some demand tolerance of Muslims and their feelings, wants, and wishes, yet these same people are unwilling to be tolerant of those opposed to the center.

Interesting concept - they should both be tolerant of each other. Would the mosque be built in that case or not? Maybe just half a mosque. as a compromise? I guess Eric the half a bee could officiate?

A true compromise would be that the center was built further away, both sides and city officals sitting down and working out where. But thats a pipe dream neither side will back down. Thus the muslims get their center and those opposed to the location are also happy.
