Nice to see my MP is so out to lunch he does not know the name of the party in power.

On the topic however I'm a bit torn. Yes there was much of the form I thought was intrusive but why not get rid of the contentious parts rather than the whole thing? I think most of it provides a lot of good info to help decide policy and economic issues etc. Now that its voluntary and unpublished it really just useless and should be not even an option.

If you were to listen only to the official Conservative statements, our opposition parties are the Liberals, Socialists, and Separtists. You want to claim the opposition has a monopoly on emotive rhetoric?
But yea, if the Conservatives have an issue with the long form, just scrap it, or make it 1 in 10 or 1 in 20 from 1 in 5, but if it's not mandatory, the results are crap.
So the question is: why would they deliberately compromise the census? Do they think they can skew the results in their favor? Do they have some beef with Stats Can? Or do they just have some issue with the government requiring the people to do something, even if there's a damn good reason?

Not at all. Unfortunately among the rats on the hill bad rhetoric is an equal opportunity sport. Unfortunately for the rest of us too many people buy it.
As to your question, it does make me wonder if their is another motive considering censoring of access to info requests and the less than transparent practices in government since Harper came in I certainly don't support. When they seem to hide more they open themselves up to more suspicion when they do stuff like this. Could be innocent, but we'll never know because ATIP requests will be held up for years and then 90% blacked out if we try to find out.
