...and if found guilty he has to pay it all back.

I would think that the Quinte Detention Centre store isn't exactly stocked up with high price items that will drain a Colonel's wages.

He's innocent until proven guilty, he should get paid until they discharge him.

Exactly. The one difference is that most of us would not be paid if we were locked up awaiting trial, and I doubt many employers would keep somebody on the payroll that is charged with such horrific crimes.

He isn't in a normal 'job' andy, thats why he still gets paid.

The press know nothing about our military as usual.

The people who join the military have to give up a lot of rights and privileges that most people take as a given. In return certain guarantees are made by Canada. One of them is that members get paid until discharge.

The fact that the media are making a deal about this reflects their lack of knowledge of the CF that we are all well used to.

Strangely enough, when I saw the headline, I thought, "Meh, he hasn't been convicted or proven guilty yet so what's the problem?"
As EB said, he hasn't been discharged, and they can't discharge him unless(until) he's found guilty.

What are they going to do if he's convicted and does not pay it back? Put him in Jail?

    He'll just owe them.

You mean like, if he is convicted, he owed it to his wife and family not to be sneaking around raping women and swiping 500 pairs of panties in B and Es behind their backs and owed it to society not to be doing the same? If his family can't trust him there's no way we should trust him to live up to Owing us.

Besides, he's trying to save us all money but they won't let him!

Seize bank accounts, auction off his property. Its the government, when they want their money back they get it.

He's tried to kill himself once. He's on a hunger strike. This guy is NEVER going to be convicted...."Hello Penetanguishine, gimmie some fuckin' Jello".

So then what he'd owe, minus the cost of trying to recover all that, equals less than what he owed in the first place and the taxpayer still loses, as always.

As far as the "hunger strike" I have not heard any demands in relation to it. I suspect its really just a slow suicide attempt.

Part of the cost of doing business. It pales into insignificance when you look at how much money the Feds are spending on giving pension money to incarcerated inmates, most who have not paid a tax cent in their lives.

The hunger strike, along with the so-called suicide attempt, is just laying the groundwork for an insanity plea. If he was serious about killing himself, he'd already be dead.
