The Bloc Quebecois plans to vehemently oppose a government plan to add 30 new seats to the House of Commons -- none of which are slated for Quebec.

Anything that delutes the power of the Bloc from being a constant pain the ass sounds like a good thing.

I was wondering how long it would take for the Bloc to cry foul.

WHat is "blow it out your ass" in French? I wouldn't want to offend the Bloc by telling them that in English.

There are enough members in the house... this will just take more out of the taxpayer to pay for these guys... not to mention the life long pensions they get after a term or two..

I really think that being french in this country is to have the god given right to bitch and complain about everything no matter how stupid it is.

Everytime they do this, it just makes them look dumber and dumber....

    You're right Kenmore.

The better solution is not to add more MP's, but take seats away from over-represented provinces and give those seats to under-represented ones.

But the "East" will not bite on that idea, so this is the only way to go about it.

Get real! there is nothing dumb about Qubecers or frenchman. There is a valid point here.. Harper is stacking the commons, like he stacked the senate. Shouldn't a flag go up here? He has earned the dick tator title don't you think?

Its the way the system runs Kenmore, you know westminster parliamentary system ????

And I hope your sitting down for this but it wasn't Harpers idea on how it runs.

Based on population growth more seats are required, the more a province grows its only fair that that is represented fairly in the house why can't you see that, been watching TVA again ?.

Stacking the commons ? ROTFL give me a break.

Every party except the Separatists has a chance at these seats anyways, nothing unfair about it. If they want a crack at it maybe they should run for a couple of ridings in Ontario, BC or Alberta. lol

Sorry Kenmore, but for a representative democracy to be representative, it has to be fair and actually represent the number of citizens in Canada. The current system with eastern provinces having 35,000 - 65,000 citizens per MP and Prairie provinces having 100,000+ per MP in some cases is not very representative of the population (nevermind fair).

Stacked the senate? oh you mean when the conservative PM appointed conservastive senators just like liberal PMs have appointed liberal senators? And like bloc or NDP PMs would appoint bloc or NDP senators if they had the chance?

And really, if he wanted to stack the commons there'd be a lot more seats being created in alberta and saskatchewan, not in ontario.

Actually there were more torys put in the senate by liberals.. check it out.. harper.. has stacked the senate with tory supporters and old burnt out members of the press. He is hoping to do the same with more MPs and hopes to get torys elected because he hasn't got a hope in hell in Ontario at the moment or in NFLD or Qubec any time soon... we don't need more over paid MPs... Canadians should be pounding the pavement over this idea! He doesn't need Alberta for a majority or Saskatchewan either... but he does need Ontario and Qubec... bonne chance with that!

Its still a Liberal dominated Senate silly, by the way he's tabled a 2nd senate reform bill, if its such a problem why don't Liberal Senators pass it this time around instead of sitting on it for years.

Since there's more seats going to Ontario which you claim to be a liberal bastion, according to you're logic it Liberals are going to win it. Why would you have a problem with that ?

Is it because even though Quebecs population hasn't grown and based under the westminster parliamentary system they're not getting seats , they should get extra seats anyway because Quebec is special ?

By the way in 20 years from now if the population trends continue as they are that means more seats for provinces west of Quebec. In the end they wont need Quebec. It's not that Quebec's population is growing, its just that alot of Francophones move out of Quebec.

I know for a fact your license plate reads "Ontario, Yours to discover" n'est pas ?
