The Americans are just pissed off because we gave most of Maine back to them after the war of 1812.

If people crossing the boarder there was such a big deal they should have some sort of fence or a station not just an open road and a sign. Going to the States and living there for 10 years I pretty much determined that you need a few brain cells missing to get a job as a boarder guard on both the Canada and US side. They very honestly may be some of the dumbest people I have ever dealt with in my entire life. It is scary that they are allowed to even have guns.

How hard would it be to put up a sign that clearly states "you are now leaving canada and entering the US, turn around if you aren't prepared to deal with border gaurds"?

    What's so bad about it?
So they lost 4 hours out of their lives.
On the plus side they got a great experience out of it. :D

Not as if they lost their car or were "cavity" searched. 8O

Border Services says it can't simply block the road. It is a legal point of entry into Canada in the summer, primarily to accommodate Aroostook Valley Country Club golfers, who play the game in Canada but must park in the United States.

    Is this a joke????

My friends in Custer, Washington have told me they can't just hop their fence and catch the bus into Van anymore because of the border crackdown. They've even had border patrol come on to their property when they've been hanging out at the fence with their next-door neighbors (who are in Canada).

All because the USA won't take sensible measures against Muslims who preach hate and who seek the destruction of the USA.

    yeah, I guess it is.

someone is taking their job way too seriously.
Perhaps understable in the current situation.

However, for the difference of a few feet from both sides,
this situation wouldnt be too difficult to actually fix.

People just being pig-headed, all the way around.

I'm actually surprised it was the US border guards and not our own. I've had far more problems with our idiots than the American guards.

It use to be who cared, these days it's becoming a pain in the ass. I dearly miss those days.

The border copy was a F moron. He should have just turned them around and let it go at that.

He didn't have to a First Class bastard about the whole thing.

This whole guarded border arrangement gets me quite angry.
That Dyke Janet Reno has her head up ass (when its up
up someone else's) I do realize that George W had more to do
with this HORSESHIT. If we take proper precautions about Islamic
terrorists we could return the border situation to what it used
    to be and should be.

What memories this story brings back.I too had an incident at this crossing.I had a girlfriend in Grand Falls N.B.It was the late 80's.I had read an article in the paper about the Aroostook County country club. Aroostook county is the name of the county in northern Maine. The club was established during prohibition. It was purposely put on the Canadian side of the border so its members could drink alcohol.A brilliant idea at the time. The novelty of the place was that although the club was in Canada there were no U.S. or Canadian customs stations.Americans could get shitfaced and go back to the States without going through a customs station. It sounded like a cool place to check out.I took my girlfriend and her brother for a ride from the Canadian side. There were absolutely no signs saying we were entering the U.S. We saw the parking lot of the country club, and pulled in to take a look. Not much to see,a golf course,a clubhouse, not much else.We had a few drinks in the clubhouse and decided to call it a day.On the drive home,we were stopped by Canadian customs. They had towed a little trailer out and set up a checkpoint.Neither my girlfriend or her brother had ID on them,as we did not think we were crossing the border. We were detained for several hours as they tried to ID my passengers. This was before the era of cellphones. You had to catch someone at home in those days.I was free to leave as I had ID and could enter Canada or return to the States. My girlfriend and her brother were stuck in limbo. They could not enter Canada or the States.I had to drive to my girlfriends house and wait for hours for someone to show up to pick up ID for her and her brother, return to the trailer and set them free. This is without a doubt the most screwed up border crossing in North America. No clear markings of any kind,on either side.My problem with this story is how the CBC has tried to portray this incident as an example of American stupidity.Yes I think the American border patrol overreacted. Those border patrol agents are not from that area. The people in that area all have relatives on both sides of the bordor. You will not find a closer knit community than the Maritimes and New England.Where was the CBC when my girlfriend and her brother needed them? I have crossed the Maine New Brunswick border thousands of times. As an American entering Canada I never had a problem, they figured I was there to spend money.Returning to the States I never had a problem as there is not much I can buy cheaper in Canada than the States.Everytime I entered the States or Canada with my Canadian girlfriend, there was a problem.I always had to pull over and come inside for an interrogation. The States thought I was sneaking my girlfriend into the States.Canada thought we were smuggling cigaretts or booze.I have not met many nice customs agents on either side.I have had a lot worse treatment of my girlfriend trying to enter Canada. The Canadian customs agents do not want to hear that you had dinner and a show in the States. It sounds like bullshit to them.We must be smuggling something.I lived in New Brunswick for several years.I have heard thousands of horror stories about crossing the bordor.People who had thier vehicle impounded for a pack of undeclared American smokes,or a sixpack of American rotgut beer.Where was the CBC when all these people were getting screwed by the heavyhanded Canadian government? That part of the world ( both sides of the border)is by far the safest place I have ever lived.Where they get these keystone cops to play border patrol is beyond me.Fix the damn bordor, let people know its there.CBC knock off the slanted journalism.Lots of Canadians do not know they are crossing into the States and end up getting screwed by thier own customs agents on thier trip back.I wonder how many weed smokers accidently cross the unmarked border and than get busted on thier trip home.
