I can't stand Damien Cox. He also wants fighting gone. Might as well bubble wrap the players.
I can see his point if this was a dirty hit, but it UNDENIABLY a clean hit. Booth's head unfortunatley got rattled in the process. If it isn't instilled in him to keep his head up while playing at an elite level then he better learn fast.
It's a shit deal that it happend to him again though. Nothing is going the NHL's way.
Ban the hard plastic shoulder and elbow pads altogether and 9 out of 10 of these potential career-ending injuries wouldn't have happened at all. A guy might get rattled good by the impact but he wouldn't end up with his life ruined from getting hit by something as a hard as stone or steel plating. Shit like this simply did not happen with the old fabric padding.
Whoever thought that it was a great idea to allow hockey players to run into each other full tilt wearing body armour that was designed for SWAT teams should be taken out and shot to death with pieces of their own poo. Yes, the whole concept of putting the equivalent of chain mail on a hockey player is that damn dumb.
Apparently, Cox has never seen a good ol' Broad Street Bullies game from the early 70's Seriously though, Booth got hit cleanly. I have no issue with cracking down on blindside head shots, but man, if you get clocked head on, whose fault is it really?
Despite Cox's little diatribe, hockey is MUCH safer and gentler than it was 35-40 years ago.
