Thieves are accessing personal financial information using the old-fashioned smash-and-grab method, but what they're grabbing are point-of-sale terminals, not merchandise.

I watched that on Saturday. It's a huge elephant in the room and it's only going to get worse. Last year here in Victoria there was a Russian mob that swapped out merchants PIN readers with scanners of their own that transmitted the bank info. One was an Orange Julius here at town and country. They targeted minimum wage job places where the staff just don't care about security and the next person that buys a drink gets their account drained. The new chips will help but it still comes down to convenience trumps security.

Yeah, Bank of Montreal cancelled my debit card stating that it was used at a outlet that was under investigation.

Had to go to the bank to get a new card.

After that experience, I always carry cash. I was lucky, could have had my account cleaned out.

Can hardly wait for that Canadian plastic money..
