When Naima Ahmed went to college in Egypt to study pharmacy, she took courses alongside men and women. When she dispensed medication, she dealt with men and women.
If I were in that class and the teacher told me to face the wall during her presentation I would be insulted as would any self respecting man.
If this that hard line extreamist with the pillow case over her face what else does she believe to good or evil?
It is a case of welcome to a Democracy and freedom and an open society with a Charter of Rights to guarantee basic freedoms to all. In this society we cherish those and many other good ideals on this side of the world.
To attempt to force Quebec to act like it is the dark ages is collossal arrogance. The reaction to this isn't racism it is a natural reaction when confronted by this.
If she is offended by living in a free and open society in anywhere in North America she can go back to Egypty when she can live under the tender Shaia Laws where it would be legal to beat her for such ballsy arrogance.

Same here, I would of told the teacher to eat dirt and try something elese.

They are only offended when it goes against their wishes/needs/demands. The first thing they bring up is "freedom of religion". Something not so common in their country of origin, but they know how to pull that card the moment set foot here?
Yeah they do, which I find so ironic. Considering the countries they come from I'm pretty sure dont have Human Rights Commissions.
The Koran says women must dress modestly their archaic husbands think this means draping your wife in a black tent. It doesn't, I have no problems with nijabs In fact I find them quite exotic looking.
I can only imagine though working with a colleague that wears a tent to work I'd find it pretty hard to accept considering I've been raised in a culture were we can see other peoples facial expressions as an important part of how we in western society communicate.
I'd avoid a colleague like that at all costs, they want to be closed off from the rest of us, fine. Wish granted.

Thats actually a bit of a false argument. Dont expect immigranst to have the believe in the same policies as the dictatorships they're fleeing from...usually, its the exact opposite.
It is a privalege not a right.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: I think all religion is dumb and people who think there is god who cares about trivial shit like what you wear or what you ate for supper are among the stupidest of all. I also think forcing anybody to "face the wall" or leave the room because they are male or whatever is stupid, just like I dont think non-christians should have to leave the room when the teacher wants to lead the class in the lord's prayer. It should be noted that it was the teachers idea to have the men face the wall and the mulim girl is the one who chose to face the wall instead.
BUT the real question is not who should leave the room or face the wall, its why does this have to be an issue in the first place? Who cares if she wants to give a speech with that stupid get-up on?
I think the real issue that the teacher had a personal problem with muslims who dress that way and chose to show their prejudice. There is nothing about ther get-up that fundamentally interferes with the class. Just leave it alone.
If she is offended by living in a free and open society...
I dont think there is anything about a free and open society that is offending her. Remember, shes not imposing anything on us, we are the ones who are imposing on her by making her take off her get-up or face the wall, etc. in order to participate in class. In fact, you have to recognize that these so-called "anti-burqa" policies are about us deciding where the limits of freedom exist for immigrants, they are not about others coming in and limiting our freedoms.

They have some elected branches of government and legislature but the government jails some opposition party members and reserves the right to determine which parties can run for election and which can not. The real and final power rests with the President who is basically President for life - the current president has been in power for almost 3 decades and is elected on a "single candidate" system, meaning uncontested (you vote 'yes' or 'no' next to his name). Not surprisingly, he gets like 80% of the vote but voter turnout is less that 25% of registered voters, who make up less than half of the country's entire population. It is equal to or possibly even worse than Iran (depending on your interpretation) as Iran has a much more developed election system, which is then ensconsed within an unelected layer of theorcratic rule.
Still, first thing they are taught (IF they read the damned manual before they apply) is that church and state are seperated. So, yes, I DO expect people to know what they are getting into, especially when they have been living here for a while.
Well, that particular ban only applied to taking exams, although advocates in government and the moderate religious elite hinted that they would seek take it further as the niqab "has no basis in Islam." Most recently the ban was overturned by the courts, but the court system over there is byzantine and allows for these kinds of cases to be appealed almost indefinitely and there is a considerable degree of political influence over courts so who knows what will come of it.
"I'm just like any other person," Ms. Ahmed said in an interview with The Globe and Mail yesterday, speaking in her native Arabic tongue. "The only difference is that I wear a veil over my face. It doesn't mean I'm wearing a veil over my mind."
we speak french or english or even ojibwae in canada, learn about the country you immigrate to or get the fuck out

Egypt a dictatorship?
