"Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves."
Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space, 1994

Anyone remember the name of an old sci-fi short story where the aliens attacked claiming they were the 'chosen people' tried to wipe the humans out?

    Yeah, it's called "The Bible".

    Yeah, it's called "The Bible".
    Correction The Torah.

Perhaps we aren't worth saving, after all.

Unless you're one of the "chosen people" of course.

Or mentally retarded. Or homosexual. Or Mexican. Right? /bigotry off

A fantastic article on what a wonderful time it is to be alive, and in the midst of the biggest ever expansion of human knowledge; and the mental midgets have to overrun it with religion and racism. We are not worth saving, the Universe should erase any trace we were ever here.

You are feeling left out in the hunt for planets in other solar systems because of the Torah and the Chosen people? Seriously? You can't see what you are writing here? Bullshit. The only person I've met that was that dense was "Sasqatch2".

No I'm feeling left out of all the love on this planet, especially yours. Maybe I should have just left it at the bible, in Lemmy's post. You seem OK with that.

My sarcasm obviously wasn't recognized by you. Sorry if I touched a nerve. It is a fantastic time in human history, a time we discover how really insignificant we are. And how quick we are ready to attack others, based on our insecurities.

Quite so. My sarcasm detector didn't even chirp. I'm not overly sensitive to those issues, but perhaps some issues should be better left to some other forums and other threads?

It was a fantastic article to discuss, but somehow it's lost my interest this afternoon.
