    Authorities say she was attacked by an unidentified male at about 12:30 a.m. in Hastings Mill Park, located next to the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on Point Grey Road.

    What the hell was she doing in a park by herself at that hour?

    Excuse me? Why CAN'T she go there by herself at that hour?? :?

    For all I care, she should be able to be butt naked and NOT be assaulted at ANY time of day.

    How the fuck is this her fault???

    She was walking alone on a sidewalk bordering Hastings Mill Park next to the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on Point Grey Road. Hastings Mill Park sits on Point Grey Road, between Highbury and Alma streets, dividing the historic Hastings Mill Store museum and the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. On its west side, a line of trees separates the park's small playground from the yacht club. By day, the park is popular with young families and dog owners. On the night before the attack, both the museum and the yacht club had hosted events that attracted crowds on both sides of the park. So, she was walking on the street in one of Vancouver's most affluent and upscale neighbourhoods when she was attacked.

    Hell, they call a bench with 2sqft of grass a park here... NO parks are closed. They can't be, they have no gates whatsoever. I dunno how that works in Vancouver, but I can imagine parks are not closed.

    It's not her fault and I never suggested that it was. It's a question of prudence. A woman was murdered nearby.

    As are the authorities:

    McGuinness called on the public to exercise caution, and outlined a number of safety suggestions for residents including:

    * Walk with a partner
    * Carry a cell phone
    * Stick to well-lit routes
    * Let someone know where you are

    Just once I'd like to hear a story of some pervert attacking somebody like Gina Carano by mistake and getting f*ck*d right up.

    Seems like it would be prudent to carry a pistol when walking in Vancouver's parks late at night.

    I'd agree. That would set these enbolden little drug addicts back on their heels.

    Where do you get 'drug addict' from???

    There are plenty of deterrants already available.

    Can't imagine anyone being in Pacific Spirit Park after dark. Even in daylight it's woody, gloomy and narrow twisting trails.

    She was east of Jericho beach, which is nowhere near Pacific Spirit Park.
