ROME ï¿½ Italy and NATO on Thursday denied a newspaper report that Italian intelligence secretly paid the Taliban thousands of dollars to keep the peace in an Afghan area under Italian control.

Fuck, now who knows what to believe? Is this just a standard response because there would be a huge uproar and NATO is fragile right now?

Or, do we believe these officials and dismiss it as the Times looking for a story and maybe stir some shit up?

I've never fully understood why Italy is NATO to begin with, but then I don't bother to ask why Romania is in there too.

They paid off the Taliban. No two shits about it. I mean is there the tiniest corner of Italian politics or even philosophy that doesn't involve pay-outs or payola? It's just the way things are done there.
