First question is WTH is a 13 year old girl doing on a bus, by herself @ 2:30 in the freakin am?

First question I thought as well, second was did her parents know she was out alone at 2:30 am. While I don't think anybody deserves to have something like this happen to them I do think that in some circumstances you take your chances, sounds like a crime of opportunity on the rapists end.

My first thought was WTF was the bus driver doing when all of this occured? Picking his nose??

Second thought was yes.... wtf was she doing on the bus alone at that hour?

If someone sits beside you on a bus, train or whatever and pulls a gun to tell you to go with them.... tell them to kiss your ass and stay where you are. If they don't piss off, Move to another seat and get the driver's attention. Chances are they're not going to make a big scene where there are witnesses and they're not going to risk shooting you and then try to force an escape off of a moving transit system, because they'd be caught for sure.

Go with the stranger with the gun or be shot right then and there.... Hmmmm.....I'd take getting shot, or attempt to beat the living sh*t out of the guy before getting shot. At least then you'd be near people who can help you or call the police/ambulance and the jerk would be quickly caught.

Go quietly with them and guess what? Chances are, you're going to end up dead anyways.... or this will happen and either way, they get away with it.

Scum like this get away with these sorts of things because people are too passive and think they'd be better off doing as they say.

I know if I'm going down, I'm certainly going to do my best at taking everybody responsible with me.

To be fair to the victim thoug, a scared 13 year odl girl probably won't think of things like this, she's thinking, shit I'd better do as he says. She's lucky she's not dead.

The bus drivers arn't police and when they do intervene, they get fined or fired. We have one of the most padded security teams for transit but you'll never see them when there's a problem.

No. You'd think it would be common sense but it's not a law.
I agree that it was dumb but focussing on the girl is blaming the victim.

Oh I agree completely, I guess I should have explained my little rant was towards parents to teach their damn kids what to do in regards to strangers and to teach them not to go wandering around on buses in the middle of the night.

But I have also known a few women over the years who were sexually assaulted whom have been affected very badly from their experiences and has changed their lives dramatically.

People who rape/sexually assault other people should be dragged out on the street and have a cinder block dropped on their skull.....

.... No wait.... tied down to the road and have a steam roller run over them very slowly.... feet first.

    Bastards.

Of course! We'v just seen a few examples where bus drivers went beyond the call and did a great act but were punished by their managers.

Then it's time for them to file a complaint with their union.
They do have radios or contact with their dispatch so they should be able to report a crime, if this girl was educated by her parents (as Praxius stated) she could have dealt with the situation (possably as things don't always work out for the best even when your prepared)

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't Vancouver city buses have video cameras?

I guess the schools will need to step up again, to make up for bad parenting skills and teach teens what to do when this happens.

Someone tries to force you ANYWHERE do not let them, scream, make a scene hit them. Its the same as a carjacking, chances are if they get you to drive your car you are dead.

My favorite was always "Yell Fire" because statistically people are more likely to respond to fire than any other threat, what a world we live in.

This does again bring up my point of teaching self defense in schools k-12
