Seagoing sailors and beards they just seem to go together like salt and pepper, rum and coke, burgers and fries but no more.

Safety considerations eh? What about Cpl. Singh who can't wear a helmet or get a proper seal on his gas mask because of a beard?

Turbans must be removed when wearing one prevents them from adopting the necessary safety equipment to do their job.

Not sure why this doesnt also apply to the beard. Might be because a turban is easily put back on where a beard takes a while.

    This is interesting:

This decision only affects the wearing of beards; moustaches and sideburns can still be worn in accordance with CF dress regulations. Reasonable accommodation will also be made for personnel with religious and medical exemptions.

I'm not aware of any medical reasons why someone would need to grow a beard.

The only thing I can think of would be for dermatological reasons.

I'm surprised that they still allowed beards.

I delivered some linens once years ago to the Esso Refinery and they made me dry shave (again for safety reasons) at the gate before they would let me enter the compound.

How are they going to know that the sailors are rough and tough men now, you're taking away their identity!!!

At least now the bubble head clearence and combat divers can look more like soldiers and not grizzly adams.

They're no dirtier than your hair. I wore a beard from the mid eighties when they we're reinstated, till the present day and at no time while serving did I ever have any problem getting a seal on my chemox or gas mask. The trick was to keep your beard properly trimmed and your neckline clean shaven.

This is another politically correct move by the military to weed out hormonally challenged losers who can't grow proper beards, sailors who don't maintain their beards or to appease the other two branches who don't allow them, except in special circumstances.

Just wait till all the medical chits start pouring in for skin rashes from shaving like they did when they we're banned before.

This is big brother all over again, saying you're to stupid to ensure your own safety by trimming your beard and shaving your neckline, so we have to do it for you.

    Fucking stupid.

Another freedom of choice moment removed by your friendly politically correct masters.
