I for one had long ago decided for myself that the olympics are a tourist trap sham that in no way reflect the original intent of the games and the spirit of sports. Big business and governments only want the games as a forum to trump themselves up and take advantage of the whole world for the duration of the games.
The IOC are a bunch of heads up their asses fools with no concearn other than looking good and they sure blew it here.
Boycot anyone? as if we needed more reasons. I hate the olympics and as much as I love to watch hockey I won't even watch that in the olympics

I have to disagree to a certain extent. As much as the olympics have been commercialized and exploited for marketing and pomp. You could NEVER tell the athletes that the spirit of the sport is not there. I faithfully wait for the next 4 years to come so I can take pride in cheering on my countries athletes as they compete as hard as they possibly can for a dream they've long lived to fulfill. Nothing can take that away for them. My heart goes out to the Female jumpers, that is an absoloute load, and there is no justification for this. I would agree to a boycott of all ski jumping events.

But where I do agree is on the IOC, morons and bigots, about money and personal prestige, nothing more.

Good point on the athletes Schnek, I didn't consider that angle and your right for them it's a highpoint of their careers to stand on those podiums. I'm just very tired of the politics and BS surrounding them. So, I recant and say Boycot the ski jumping events and cheer on our athletes, just ignore the Master Card and Coca Cola commercials and billboards.

I have been boycotting since the announcement of Vancouver being awarded. This is even more of a motivator to do so. Oh and they have designated protest zones as well

Kudo's to those athletes who struggle and train to be the worlds best at a sport that only wealthy can compete, from northern nations wealthy enough to build the dedicated runs and slopes for that specific event. To hell with all those southern countries that can't afford to succeed at bobsled or downhill racing. This is our payback for all you runners from Kenya and Ethiopia who keep winning our marathons.

Seriously, the Olympics has become a joke and the winter olympics is the punch line.

I really don't get the IOC's stance on this. You'll allow syncronized swimming, no offence to the synconized swimming fans if there are any ............. I didn't think so, but you wont allow women to ski jump. Sounds kind of screwed up to me.

I guess the only women the IOC wants to see jumping are the ones in their hotel rooms that were hired by the bidding nations.

Ummm the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms trumps the IOC's rules and regulations, does it not?

And the best part Shep? They are not refering to them as designated protest zones, but designated free speech zones.

Would that not be every square inch of the country formerly known as Canada?

Oh yes it does...and I will be exercising my Right as a Born and Raised Canadian to express my displeasure of the cuts being made in my sector as well as housing in zones where I feel is the best fit for world view. I have no problem being arrested for it either.

And now I am even more pissed from this ruling. The underlying tone at this time right now is, they are thinking of removing the 250 social housing units from the Olympic village to put up for market to help offset costs. BULLSHIT!!!...its Expo 86 all over again.

I agree that they should be aloud to sky.

The IOC says that a sport must have reached a level were X amount of countries and individuals compete, before it is aloud to be in the Olympics.

the thing that I do not understand is why the women took it to the BC court. I do not believe that the Charter/ government can over rule a IOC decision.

So what was the point of the court case. Local political support for their fight with the IOC.
