SASKATOON - Disgraced First Nations leader David Ahenakew tried to explain his controversial comments about Nazism and the Jews during his hate-crimes trial Friday, saying Adolf Hitler "had his reasons" for his actions during the Second World War.

    He can't be a racist. He's a minority.
I thought all racists were white men.. or at least that's what the CBC keeps telling me.

Hmmm...but you outraged that he is in court for speaking his mind correct? Freedom of speech etc...right?

    Good point.

What he says is objectionable and borders on hate crime but is it criminal? That's the courts job. I'm just shocked that anyone in this day and age would say that crap in public.

I am happy that the human rights commissions didn't get in on this. Then again, considering most of the HRC cases have been through muslims, I can see why they might not disagree with these opinions.

calling the Jews a disease was ignored by the CHRC, yet suggesting Islam was spreading was dragged through the star kangaroo courts.....hmmmm

The CHRC have been proven to be the biggest trolls for hatered in all of Canada. It's been proven in court that they steal internet accounts from innocent people when they troll for convictions. One shudders to imagine the ammount of crap they spew before they set the hooks.

Residential schools were to educate natives, so that they could more easily integrate into, participate in and benefit from an advanced industrial society.
this out to get some people crying foul.
Yet, screams of genocide ring out when residential schools are discussed and the 'victims' compare them to the nazi death camps.

Ahenakew justifies the holocaust, claiming the Jews brought it down on themselves and deserved it. Unlike the residential schools, I don't think you're going to find people who thought they benefitted from attending a death camp, yet there just as many people who feel their education, at a residential school, was a positive experience, as those who claim to have been abused.

But then, if you claim that residential school was a positive experience you aren't going to get cut a nice fat cheque from the government are you?

Ignorance isn't a virtue. This guy is a moronic piece of trash and if someone had claimed the same about Natives he'd be screaming "racism" or "bigotry". It's stupidity and hypocrisy at its finest.

Agreed Mustang. But stupidity and hypocrisy seem to be sanctioned, even encouraged in Canada, if you are an aboriginal Canadian. Two levels of law and rules.

Instead of these silly trials and tribunals for these kind of idiots why don't we just take them out to a field and shoot them will potato guns for a few hours? It'd be far more amusing for the rest of us and far more painful for the accused than going to court would ever be.

The only thing I would add to this is that it is a waste of the court's time to drag this ignorant old fool through the Criminal courts.

The man has already been discredited, ridiculed and had his reputation consigned to history's scrap heap. Rightfully so too.

Why is it also necessary to add criminal sanction to the mix? The antidote to hateful speech is reasonable speech and public censure, not police and courts.
