NATO would defend Baltics: U.S. military chief

VILNIUS - NATO would abide by its commitment to defend the three Baltic states in case of attack, the top U.S. military officer said on Wednesday in the face of regional concerns over a newly assertive Russia.

since these countries are members of NATO, its a little surprising
that an offical statement needs to be released..

maybe they are worried NATO isn't a serious organization..

That's what I was thinking to. I guess the US feels the need to do some sabre rattling after the Russian occupation of Georgia.
