A free enterprise banking system is a Liberal legacy ? You are still so delusional..."free enterprise" to a Liberal is whatever he can get for nothing, without actually earning it... and to hell with everyone else.

It is a Liberal legacy. Canada's Liberal party for a long time has been more fiscally conservative than the Conservatives.
Yup a Liberal legacy. You're delusional..............yet again.
The Banking system as we know it was set up by a Conservative PM.
A changing environment By the early 1930s, however, the political climate had changed. A gathering depression and mounting criticism of the country's existing financial structure coincided with a specific concern of Prime Minister R. B. Bennett over the lack of a direct means in Canada for settling international accounts. In 1933, he set up a royal commission to study "the organisation and working of our entire banking and monetary system to consider the arguments for or against a central banking institution..."
The arguments "for" won. The royal commission, headed by Lord Macmillan, recommended in its report that a central bank be established. A week after the report was made public, the Prime Minister announced that his government would adopt the recommendations.
Thankfully successive governments haven't tampered with the system and we are now reaping the benefits of that wisdom.
I guess now, you'll have to come up with something else you can claim the Liberal Party did for Canada.

Except when lining its own pockets from Adscam....Course Liberals done like hearing about that
I think Bill Clinton must have a soft spot for Canada. Many US liberals do. Probably another reason why I like Clinton adn US liberals in general.
I heard some nasty rumours this morning that Harper is going to "guarantee loans" for Canadian banks in order to enhance our international competitiveness. Givcernment aid to make the private sector more competitive sounds pretty socialist to me. Letting banks fight to survive makes them more competitive, not government hand-outs.

I agree the liberals have no claim of credit on the banking system but so to does the current conservative one. Considering that was kept in place by both sides of the isle to date neither current poltical party has any claim on the current banking system save the old axom if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Oh for fuck's sake, let it die already.
The reality is that NO ONE likes hearing about our government wasting money, hence how Harper got elected in the first place.
And Trev is still right, Canada under the Liberals has done and will continue to do just fine, thank you very much. And when you look at the big picture, $500,000,000 is a small price to pay to keep the country united and keep us out of debt and deficit...
great Liberal legacy
Really?
You are still so delusional..."free enterprise" to a

only the ultra right wing has socialized banking
Well that would explain only the Dems voting against bills that would have given the US some of the same protections we enjoy.
