Wow, I know there are a lot of Liberals who are upset with the election results but can't they give Dion even a few days to at least exit in a bit of a graceful manner? I think Dion know perfectly well what needs to happen so I don't really feel there is any need to push the guy out the door. It's kind of disgraceful imo.

I agree, the Libs do need to replace Dion but all the talk about it should be done behind closed doors.

Dion needs to step down period. That the party's wishes are being made public is actually a good thing. It's called transparency and it is the way political parties should work. The party needs to know where it stands and a leadership review is going to get expensive. If we have to have both a leadership review and a convention, it will break us.

It is in the best interest of the party for Dion to step down, and it is O.K for the people to know this as the Liberal party is a party of the people.

Good for the Liberals, turf this joker and bring in a leader and policies that Canadians can get behind.

Canada needs at least two viable, strong parties. I backed the CPC this time but that doesn't mean I'd want them in power forever.

Lol. I find it funny as hell that you guys even listen to a crooked bastard like Joe Volpe. He's one of the people who put the Liberals where they are right now and he's definately not one of the folks who should be trusted to fix it.

Right now isn't all that critical because there's a lot of rebuilding that's nessesary and they might as well let Dion stay untill he pays off his leadership campaign debts.

Without a clear Conservative majority this was my biggest fear. While I am not a Liberal supporter, the Liberal machine is a tenacious beast and tends to learn to adapt. Dion will be gone and the Liberal party will select a leader who is more centrist, thus appealing to more Canadians. PM Harper had better be on his toes or it might turn into a very short run as PM. 8O

It depends who the candidate is 2Cdo. If things play out as I suspect, the Libs will get Rae or Iggy. Rae will give seats to the Tories in Ontario, no matter what he does. Iggy is more right of centre and could be a threat if he stopped being so arrogant.
Arrogant plays badly on TV, and it's all about image over substance.
Look at Quebec, they've bought image over substance since 1991.

I agree about Rae. Other than his riding it would probably turn the majority of Ontario seats Tory blue (with a smattering of NDP orange). Ignatief could be a threat if he toned down his "I'm smarter than everyone else" attitude.

Ugh. On election night, they were saying Volpe had lost to the Conservative candidate, and that was one seat I was more than happy to see the Liberals lose. Volpe is slime. I guess the count went the other way after they announced that. Crap.

Hurley this is only a threat if the Liberals move more to the centre. If they don't take this opportunity to learn from their mistakes it just means more Conservative governments.

It may be hopeless at this point but... PLEASE, McKenna!! Run for the Liberal nomination!

If the Libs have a decent leader and move more centre or (heaven forbid) right of centre, they may just get my vote.
Unfortunately the Libs have been on this left wing thing for a long time and (in my view) its now inherent in their party culture. While they compete with the NDP for left laening votes, the Tories are good to go.
I don't expect a great change with any of the leadership prospects, even John Manley or McKenna.
A new leader would have to fire half the caucus to bring it more to the centre.
