Is Global Warming Making Hurricanes Worse?

Hurricanes bring winds and slashing rains that flood streets, flatten homes, and leave survivors struggling to pick up the pieces. But has global warming given the storms an added punch, making the aftereffects more dreadful?

Oh, for God's sake. This one has to go way up there on the "how dumb do you think we are" charts.

Check the date on that article - August 4, 2005.

Kerry Emanuel has since admitted he was most likely wrong on this 'warming causes more intense hurricanes' thing.

One of the most influential scientists behind the theory that global warming has intensified recent hurricane activity says he will reconsider his stand.

The hurricane expert, Kerry Emanuel of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, unveiled a novel technique for predicting future hurricane activity this week. The new work suggests that, even in a dramatically warming world, hurricane frequency and intensity may not substantially rise during the next two centuries.

But hey, there's hurricanes a brewin in the Atlantic so that must mean global warming is causing them, right?

Not. Or so says pretty much every scientist who claims to know about such stuff.

Actually I am personally not sure what to believe with regards to "Global Warming"

I like the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" as the ice melts it effects the current in the Atlantic, making the northern parts generally cooler and the southern parts warmer.

It's an interesting concept, even though it's just a movie.

Oh yeah, how has the summer been in Canada this year??? burrrrr

BTW, anyone her who like the effects on the Day After Tomorrow, Titanic, X-men, Vin Diesel's XXX, Alan Kapler, a ten-year veteran of computer visual effects work who worked on those effects also created the Dream Aquarium (which I have used for over a year personally) - I love this screensaver and it's worth trying out.

Hey, It has to be true, eventhough I don't have any evidence.

After all, that's what the media told me.

The media claims both sides, so which media are you talking about, huh???

Or is it just the media outlet that doesn't agree with your point of view?

It would seem to make sense that it would, since Warm Oceans cause Intensity. Only time can really tell though.

This was only intended to be a joke. :P

I take it that this must be a reply from one of my post on another thread. It's ok, I always said that it's nice to have a sense of humour around these forums.

Fer Christ's sake people get a grip. The new term used by the save the planet, make a buck bunch, as their campaign slogan...... is:

    "CLIMATE CHANGE"

Which, with complete deference to all scientific knowledge, encompasses every unusual weather event ever known, thereby ensuring that these modern day guru's can continue the brainwashing of our impressionable children, without opposition for at least the next millenium.

    Global warming is so 90's.

True, but there needs to be a temperature differential for storms to form.

    Crhymes it rhymes, I'm a poet and I didn't know it. :)
