The Liberal government has had dozens of web pages from Stephen Harper's days as prime minister deleted from Google search results.

Socialism 101, control the media so you can control the populations access to honest information.

Actions like this make it extremely difficult for the average voter to verify if Trudeau and the Liberals are telling the truth whenever he blames Harper and the Conservatives for everything the Liberals have done to hurt this country, doesn't it?

So much for an honest and transparent gov't like our wannabe dictator promised.

Kind of a funny quote from you considering the conservatives are only ones openly waging war on the media (enemy of the state etc.)

Nope and for the average Canadian who hasn't made his mind up in the upcoming election, getting to the Google Archives would be a daunting task but hey as long Xi Jinping lite can claim that the information is still they're, he and his acolytes can keep claiming that they're doing nothing untoward.

BTW, and the only information about accessing Google "Archives" is for either email or about how to access your own archives.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=How+to+ ... e&ie=UTF-8

Or, if you query Google about accessing this supposed "archive" the first hits explain how Google archives your personal information but I still couldn't find this mythical "archive" anywhere? Probably like millions of other Canadians which is just what the Liberals want.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=does+go ... e&ie=UTF-8

So, it's quite obvious that if you hadn't downloaded anything about Harper before Trudeau took over the running of Google.ca you'd more than likely be shit out of luck unless or course you're some kind of computer wizard or professional hacker.

But, that's not the point. The point is that, the removing or stifling of Canadians access to information that was public domain prior to an election because you don't want it to come to light, smacks of Robert Mugabe style totalitarianism.

But, I'm sure you're side has a logical reason the Liberal Gov't decided to do this right before the run up to the current Federal Election?

    Welcome to Trudeau's Canada.

Google isn't the archive, the Canadian Government is. You're looking in the wrong spot, it says so in the article.

The PCO says the material itself was neither deleted nor destroyed and remains available through Library and Archives Canada.

    It's literally the 4th sentence.

    https://www.canada.ca/en/privy-council/ ... chive.html

About 10 seconds of google to find it.

This is becoming a bit of a trend around here where either people read the headline, and completely ignore what the article says (see PA9 a few days ago) or post an article thinking it demonstrates their point, and it literally says the complete opposite. Or in this case, you go off on a tangent when you couldn't be bothered to read 4 sentences into the article to see that it's not google archive but a government one.

Well then, why ask to remove the web pages at all? Like 51 times. What is it the Liberals want to complicate access to?

    Trudeau is a devious one.

And that makes it alright? ROTFL

This isn't about where it ended up, it's about that it was done a little over 2 months before a Federal Election. And what matters is that it was done to Trudeau's former political opponent who is, still quite vocal about his leadership. It was also moved from a place where average Canadians knew they could get access to it to a place where most people would never think of looking.

But a question. Before an election how many people would be looking for Harper information in the National Archives rather than on Google? I don't know about you but, if I want public domain information I go to Google or one of the other search engines because the National Archive isn't my go to source of information. So, unless Google puts up a disclaimer saying the information has been moved to Canada's National Archives people will assume that it was never there. Of course that may have been the intent all along.

Do you want to know what's really embarrassing, it's the vigorous defense of this less than ethical act designed to solely silence past criticisms of Trudeau's leadership that have been borne out as true.

    Again, didn't read the article.

The Privy Council Office requests for deletion from Google began last Nov. 4, the day the Trudeau government took office and continued into January.

Also, check the date on the article.

I'm honestly embarrassed for you. Stop while you still have some dignity.

And what else matters is that it was done to Trudeau's former political opponent who is, still quite vocal about his leadership. It also matters that it was moved from a place where average Canadians knew they could get access to it, to a place where most people would never think of looking.
Just so we're clear, you're saying the Official Prime Minister of Canada's webpage should stay as Stephen Harper's and not be transitioned to Trudeau? The page that was archived was https://pm.gc.ca/. It changes hands when a new government is formed with new leadership. They were asking google to clear their indexing records so that if you searched for "stephen harper" the official prime minister page wouldn't appear, because why would it? They were asking them to clear indexes for pages that no longer exist.

I know computers is hard, but seriously, this is pretty simple. It would have happened organically as google's bots scraped over the new sites, but for some reason the Liberals wanted it done faster. Likely because they were wanting to ride the train of a new "look" for Canada. Nothing was being hidden, or destroyed, or altered, or whatever other fantastical idea you seem to have about this. The website changed hands, was changed to reflect the new PM, and google was asked to update it's indexing so that if someone searched "justin trudeau" that site would be a search result. That's literally fucking it.

But a question. Before an election how many people would be looking for Harper information in the National Archives rather than on Google?
You wouldn't find it by this point if you had searched anyways, because the indexer would have been long updated. This is a non-starter.

I don't know about you but, if I want public domain information I go to Google or one of the other search engines because the National Archive isn't my go to source of information.
Google would lead you to the National Archive.

So, unless Google puts up a disclaimer saying the information has been moved to Canada's National Archives people will assume that it never existed. Of course that may have been the intent all along.
Do they have to put up a disclaimer for any government website that changes when the government changes?

But, do you want to know what's really embarrassing, it's your deflection of this "less than ethical" act which gives the impression (likely correctly) that it was done to silence past criticisms of Trudeau's leadership that have been borne out as true.

No, what's really embarrassing is you posting an article that's 3 years old that you probably got from a fucking chain email or some asshat on facebook that's trying to spread misinformation. Then not reading it and seeing what it actually fucking said. THEN not bothering to do a cursory google on what google's index even is, nor what websites were taken down/changed. That's what's really embarrassing. You have literally failed in every conceivable way in this thread.

Congratulations. This was honestly one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

You dont even know what youre talking about or what these pages are for. Youre just going off half-cocked as usual. This is the PR page from the prime minister not national historic archives

Answer me this: if you google what barbecues are currently in sale at Wal-Mart, the google result should be the most current page not a barbecue sale page that was on their site ten years ago, correct?

Apples and oranges. But the real question your people haven't answered is, why would Trudeau suddenly be concerned about what Google kept about Harper on it's servers as soon as he was elected and why did he think it was important enough to get the material removed to the National Archives if they weren't archive material?

I'm glad I entertain you but, you it still doesn't negate the fact that information was removed from Google at the behest of the Gov't and if they did it for any other leader that quickly I'd be interested to see, because when I Googled it I couldn't find anything except this.

Google has been reaching out to journalists in the last 24 hours to clarify a story about how search results for government web pages from the Harper era were deleted. As iPolitics and the Canadian Press reported, the day that Justin Trudeau was sworn in as prime minister all government websites (such as pm.gc.ca) were updated to reflect their new boss. The Privy Council Office Ottawa's bureaucratic nerve centre then began to make requests to Google to remove search results that referenced former prime minister Stephen Harper.

"I do think it begs the question as to why the government would try to rewrite history. It's a little petty," Conservative MP Candice Bergen told reporters yesterday.

    So what actually happened?

Google says no censorship was involved and it processed the requests as it would from any website owner who requested old cached results be cleared to reflect what the website is like now.

"It's important to make the distinction between requests to remove search results versus webmaster requests (made by website owners) that help ensure Google Search accurately reflects the content of a publisher's website," Aaron Brindle, Google Canada's head of public affairs, wrote in a statement.

Mr. Brindle said the process was not to be confused with how the tech company deals with official government requests, which are tracked in Google's transparency reports.

The Privy Council Office does archive websites from former prime ministers, if you want a blast from the past.

But not to worry when Scheer becomes PM and immediately erases Trudeau's legacy I'll expect he'll get your full support.
