This is a direct result of the Humboldt bus crash.

Reminds me of when my cousins and I were arriving for dinner at my Auntie's house. About 3" of new snow and she lived on Renfrew St, there was a slight hill on the side street.
As we were getting out of our cars we heard this crashing noise and noticed this little car sliding down the hill towards us bouncing off cars parked on either side of the street. My uncle and 2 brothers in law ran out and all of us swarmed the car as the driver sat frozen, teeth clenched, knuckles white on the steering wheel, brakes locked solid and guided it away from the cars parked on that last block.
It continued to slide, my cousin ran onto Renfrew and stopped traffic as the little car slid through the intersection and onto the grass median. When it stopped I let go of the passenger side fender to see if the driver was ok and noticed: there was a steering wheel on my side too!
All of us started laughing and pointing - HONG KONG DRIVING SCHOOL decal right there on the doors.
No shit, this was for real, happened sometime in the early 1980s
