Maxime Bernier has debuted the People's Party of Canada, the federal political party the former Tory MP is leading, with a promise to put "Canadian people first."
"BeaverFever" said Not crazy about the name. Sound too Commie.
Bad name for a Conservative party.
Doug Ford branded himself The Peoples Premier. Same thing-right wing populism. And the Rock called himself "The People's Champion". And he's also Right Handed...
"martin14" said Good luck to Max, but ... I don't know. Never a good idea to split the vote.
If his new Party wins Quebec and takes them out of the equation it becomes game on for the rest of Canada. Since I don't see him doing well anywhere other than Quebec especially on such short notice, the next election pretty much becomes a Western vs Ontario contest with the Maritime's likely becoming the king makers instead of Quebec.
I tried to tell the uneducated masses on Reddit the Max really isn't a conservative, he's more of a "Classical Liberal" It didn't go well. But he is none-the-less. The tenants of Classical Liberalism: A government to protect individual rights and to provide services that cannot be provided in a free market. A common national defense to provide protection against foreign invaders. Laws to provide protection for citizens from wrongs committed against them by other citizens, which included protection of private property, enforcement of contracts and common law. Building and maintaining public institutions. Public works that included a stable currency, standard weights and measures and building and upkeep of roads, canals, harbors, railways, communications and postal services.
