Mercedes cars found to be fitted with defeat devices by German authorities

According to the authorities, the cars use an illegal shut-off device that reduces exhaust gas cleaning when being driven normally on the road. One million cars could be affected globally.

    In some respect this issue addresses my own long-held assertion that emissions testing is quite often disconnected from actual emissions when a vehicle is in use.

    Switching from testing in a controlled setting to doing mobile testing would be a more accurate way to measure emissions.

    Germans gotta quit playing with diesels in passenger vehicles because even with honest emissions tests there's simply no way in hell that diesel will ever be cleaner than gasoline.

    Just like the mileage claims being made by every automobile manufacturer. Of course you're going to get outstanding mileage when you're running on a wind tunnel dyno with every piece of non essential equipment and structure removed to lighten the load. ROTFL

    Not true, clean burning diesel can be processed from Jatropha which can be only grown in Kenya. It's so clean the U.S. Military was interested in it because the exhaust from tanks using Jatropha diesel wouldn't leave a black trail.
