Protesters in North Carolina topple a nearly century-old statue of a Confederate soldier at a rally against racism. Seconds after the monument fell, protesters began kicking the crumpled bronze monument.

Interesting thing about the monument craze in the American South. Apparently most of them were put up in the 20th century, from the 1920's through to 2010, long after any Civil War veterans had passed away. They were coincidental to the second rise of the KKK after World War One, when Jim Crow was at it's height, and as well as the 1960's during the civil rights marches. Most of their installations were more of a political/intimidation message aimed at the blacks and far less of a memorial to Confederate dead.
