What's amazing is that they built 24" concrete slabs of dozens of tons to BLOCK THE SUN. The construction companies in the 70's sure had a lot of money to spend on politicians...

I don't understand what you are saying here.

It is pretty common that you do not just drive into (or out of) a long tunnel without partially blocking the sun first. Unless of course you drill a hole through a mountain, pave it and call that a tunnel.

Nah, I live in the boonies

I also sorta compared Montreal to Europe (well, Western Europe, the part without too many mountains to dig a hole through), since that is what they seem to like to be compared to themselves...

On a side note... Does Vancouver actually HAVE any sun to block?

I totally understand the needs of gradually coming out in sunlight. The problem I see here is about the material used.

I have passed there several times and sincerely, I didn't know it was concrete. I thought it was a kind of plastic shade since it looks dark from under. But, let'S say I've never really cared to investigate the material while driving under. 8)

I guess the Italians had a concrete special during the 70s.

That's my point. Why did they used concrete ? Back in the 70's, we built everything with concrete in Montreal. Now, 40 years after, everything is crumbling.

The first Montreal-south shore bridge, Victoria Bridge, is 150 years old and still almost as new. Made of steel it is.

You seem to forget that the italian mafia was (and still is) VERY powerful in the Montreal construction companies. You can't hide corpses in steel beam...

Same kind of thing happened in a NEW tunnel in Boston a couple years ago. Don't feel too bad is what I'm saying.
