$1:
On hearing about the case, Len Eastoe, a former police officer who runs Traffic Ticket Experts, said the situation might have been better handled by RCMP officers driving Genevieve to hospital in their cruisers. "An emergency situation arrives, and you don't wait for the ambulance," Eastoe said. "You're driving an emergency vehicle... you get them to hospital."

Well at least he gets it. Shame he's not on the job anymore.

WTF wouldn't he turn around and head back to Winnipeg, instead of driving all the way to Brandon? It was 50 km to Winnipeg and 150 km to Brandon when trouble struck.

He says medical records were in Brandon for a complicated pregnancy. But going on a 150km trip away from that hospital 5 days before due date with a pregnancy that requires a cesarean seems like taking a big risk.

Well it's not like Winnipeg would lack a gyn-ob who has dealt with a difficult pregnancy and has performed a C section, and records can be e-mailed. I think he put her and the baby more at risk than anything else.

Stress of that nature can make people do things that seemed right at the time, but in hindsight weren't very smart at all.

I'm thinking the first cop should have escorted them to the nearest hospital.

Me too. No fooling around, straight to the nearest hospital, call for an ambulance and tell them which way you're coming in from.

Cop: OK everyone dump your booze!

Me: What booze constable?(kicking empty bottle out of sight)

Cop: Are you saying you haven't got any booze on you dave?

Me: Search me.

Cop: OK let's go, and you lot keep the noise down or we'll be out here again and we won't be in a charitable mood.

Me to friend: Hurry up and take me to the hospital before alcohol poisoning sets in.

Friend: you chugged it all down?

Me: seemed like a good idea at the time....couldn't bring myself to waste it.

that level of stupidity.

Kudos to the man for protecting his family.

I also understand the need to get to the place where they at least know who you are,
in reference to the mother and child.

The cop should have taken them to the nearest hospital, where if it was necessary
to continue to Brandon, do it in an ambulance.

Booo to the RCMP officer who wouldn't know the right thing if it jumped up and bit
him on the ass.
Gotta make that quota...

170 Kph? Sorry, no. The cop had to stop him. I bet the officer did want to escort them to the nearest hospital but as soon as they went into the convoluted explanation I could see him having noting to do with it. Add to that this was over shopping? Get the priorities strait for once.

What happened if he let them go and they got into an accident and killed someone else? The family of the victims would sue for wrongful death and will win. As it stands this guy will kick up a stink to the media and appeal the fine and will probably get off scott free for being such a dumb ass.

Scape, the first cop did let them go, with only a ticket.

If the worst had happened, I would have no problem with the RCMP
being strung up.

The cops got lucky.

Have to disagree martin. This guy is a total retard who endangered his life, the life of his wife, the life of his unborn child and possibly the lives of other motorists. he was 50 km from Winnipeg and 150 km from Brandon. He should have turned around and booted it back to Winnipeg. You can't tell me that he wouldn't be able to get a qualified doctor in a Winnipeg hospital. The first time he was stopped 20 km east of Portage, he should have been escorted directly back to Winnipeg. The error made by the officer was to let him proceed.
