Little word of advice to Liberal supporters, don't pick Rea as your leader. His only loyalty is to himself. I understand the idea of "uniting the left" but anyone who throws something like this out there so soon after a defeat is in nothing more than panic mode and only trying to save his own career.

Right now, I wonder why the NDP would even be interested.

Ask them in four years when Quebec dumps them because the gravy train and hockey area haven't showed up.

True... but only time will tell.
We may still love them in 4 years, and maybe you will have learned to love them too.

That sounds like a political emblem swap bet.

I don't have a polical emblem... maybe in 4 years, I'll see.
Besides, will we even remember this conversation next election?

Iggy...you have assured your place in history. Now go back to the States, where you have tenure.

Good thing that you don't have a grain of salt with your attack ads.

A Conservative majority is actually the best thing that could have happened to the Liberals. It gives them a minimum of four years to rebuild. In that time they can purge the remaining Chretienistas/Martinites that held on to influence inside the party for far too long, which will give their eventual new leadership time to put their own imprint on the party with no more interference from the fossils of a bygone era. They can rebuild their campaign war-chest for the next round in the way they couldn't over the last two or three elections. They can finally re-visit their policy apparatus and figure out what's going to work and what isn't in this new political era.

All in all the four years on the sidelines gives them an excellent opportunity to finally address all the post-Chretien internal problems that they were pretending didn't exist over the last five years. If they do it right, and this time they actually will have the required amount of time to do it right, then next election they'll probably be back to no less than Official Opposition leadership status. I have no reason not to believe that some of these new clowns in the NDP aren't going to be a complete embarassment.

Never count the Liberals out. By 1988 they'd come back from a shit-kicking in 1984 that was almost as bad as the one they took last night. And in the end, despite their trademarked arrogance and contempt and snotty attitude of permanent entitlement to holding the reins of power, they're still far preferrable to the economic radicalist insanity the NDP will always offer.

With kid gloves. He'll get little done and the temper tantrum will follow. Stand by for the green wave as they look for yet another party to pander to them.
