Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
"Canadian officials were horrified to find half-finished rooms, some smeared with excrement, when they tried to move into the athletes village last week."

I don't even know what to say.

Those are 5 star accomidations, based on Indian standards. Remember this is a culture that bathes, washes clothes and eating utensils in an open sewer(Ganghes). People literally shit where they eat.

Well, for all it's shitty construction and sub-standard everything, there's no choice but to carry on and have the games.

$1:
The start of the men's 4x100-metre relay was delayed while debris was fished out of the pool.

India should just not try for any more international events after this fiasco.

Where's the diversity and multiCULTuralism crowd to tell us that we're intolerant and insensitive because we don't allow for the Indian culture being different but wholly equal to ours?

Sorry kids, India is not the cultural equal of the West and India, right now, is putting the proof to that.

I'm no fan of India's blatant and racist caste system, but India's government is trying to get rid of the tradition.

Also, I'm not sure why you bring up culture? The country is poor, and some issues due to limited funding were to be expected. To bring India's inferior culture, and comparing it to the west's "superior" culture seems a bit...low brow.

It's like saying because the world cup in south Africa was more successful than the world cup in Germany, South Africa is culturally superior to Germany.

I didn't realize laziness and shoddy workmanship was a cultural identity. My bad. :D

@CommanderSock

I don't know by what yardstick you measure World Cup successes but I think the vuvuzela proved the World Cup in South Africa wasn't a success in global terms. It might have been a success when compared to hosting it in other African nations, but I doubt you'll see any other sporting organization in the world who would be anxious to host anything there.

It was the highest grossing World Cup in history in terms of revenue.

It had the third highest match attendance of any world cup in history. By those two measures alone, it was a roaring success.

I wouldn't judge the tournament on the noise of a plastic pipe.

The caste system being an integral part of India's culture for some 6,000 years.

"Poor" is a reason to pave a street with gravel and not steel reinforced concrete. "Poor" is not a reason to think that feces-smeared accomadations are suitable for guests. That's a cultural issue.

Ignoring those same cultural differences can be fatally stupid. Of course, I'm just a bigot so you go ahead and feel free to drink from the Holy Water of the Ganges and prove how enlightened you are. [B-o]

In some respects, perhaps they are. :!:

In fairness, that's going to be a mosquito doing that and it's got nothing to do with what the Indians are doing or not doing.

no surprise, diseases have a nasty habit of not respecting Commonwealth entry sites signs...

Watch it spread around.
