Not that I care because he's more likely to get a much harsher sentence down there than up here.
Because he distributed child porn into the US and because he pandered child sex slaves to Americans. Once you involve the US...in any way...in child abuse, we're pretty danged nasty about it. I do believe the US will claim jurisdiction even when the only issue is that US dollars were used in the transactions.
We're also
consistent. Any American charged with a crime against children in any other country will face US justice when they are returned to the US. And, you're right, we're usually a lot more harsh about such things than anyone else is.
Oh, and Americans have to obey US law on 'age of consent' (generally 18 for Federal statutes) regardless of the laws of the countries they may visit. Just because Costa Rica says it's okay to play with 12 year old kids doesn't mean you'll get away with it.
