$1:
The City of Richmond says a sculpture depicting Lenin and Mao is meant to show support to freedom of expression.

Oh ya, because they did so much for freedom of expression. 8O Or was that the point. I Guess that is what art is about

I thought the powers that be were trying to keep political protests to a minimum.

The work is some sort of art exchange but, from the article, the works of these artists have been banned in China.
It makes me wonder what we sent them.

$1:
"Both of those regimes were responsible for the disappearance and killing of many people," Neale told CTV News on Monday.

He said he doesn't think it is appropriate to have the sculpture located so close to the Olympic oval.

$1:
The work of the two brothers has been banned in their home country of China.

Doesn't the sculpture make fun of Lenin and Mao as opposed to trying to show them in a good light? Or am I not getting it?
On the flipside a statue that big made of stainless steel has to be worth a mint.

Actually it's typical of the mentality of this city. I've lived here for a long time and have seen some pretty questionable decisions made by our city council.
$1:
The city is spending $75,000 to prepare the sites and install the works of art.
Yet another useful way to spend my property tax money. As if the damn Oval wasn't enough. (BTW locals refer to the Oval as the Big O or the Owe-Val.)

QBall QBall:

Good. Maybe the metal scavengers who dig up pipes and cables and knock down goalposts in school fields to sell for scrap can take care of disposing of it then.

Phhhttt....

Show's what you know. Redneck Tories are some of the most ardent supporters of the arts.

I know anything called art in Canada needs to be paid for by the government.
Anything else is just a sell out.

Why couldn't we have some useful art.. like in Tokyo

Of course we "get" art, we just call it as we see it and don't beat around the bush.
